Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the clinic manager and the physician director, the Lead Ophthalmic Technician will provide direct patient care and technical expertise to patients. Performs an array of measurements and ophthalmic testing as requested by the physician and medical staff. Provides feedback to the clinic manager specific to technician hiring and evaluations. Administers daily work assignments.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.
  • Oversees the work of other Ophthalmic Techs including scheduling work, establishing work standards, and monitoring progress and work flow.
  • Assists in the training of new staff members.
  • Provides input into supervisor's actions, including performance appraisals.
  • Accurately and correctly measures auto refraction and corneal curvature using keratometer.
  • Accurately and correctly measures patient's color vision and visual acuity using potential visual acuity meter or Retinometer.
  • Accurately and correctly measures patient's intraocular pressure, color vision, visual acuity
  • Accurately and correctly performs and records visual acuity, both distance and near, used pinhole and appropriate.
  • Applies knowledge of principles of growth and development across the life span for population(s) cared for.
  • Assists physician with patient examinations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the indications, pathology and basic interpretations of test being performed.
  • Demonstrates skill in applying the principles of aseptic technique.
  • Follows policy/procedure to instill eye drops. Administers medication only after checking medication and dose with licensed person.
  • Performs eye irrigations according to physician's order and written procedure.
  • Promptly and accurately reports patient's concerns and symptoms, reactions, changes (appropriate to age) to licensed clinic personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

License/Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $88,587.20 to $100,432.80
