The Production Database Administrator (DBA) lead will have technical leadership responsibilities for a team of ~10 highly qualified DBAs . This role involves a balance of hands-on technical activities and management responsibilities. The DBA will oversee a range of tasks related to database administration, maintenance, and optimization, while also leading a team and managing strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• DBA activities (75%) & Management Responsibilities (25%)
• Having eyes on glass 24/7 to enable swift response to any alerts or anomalies
• Team Leadership & Project Management: Manage database-related projects from planning to execution, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met
• Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with stakeholders and provide strategic guidance on database solutions. Provide continuous feedback to team members
• Should be open to work in shift timings to support production environments
• Key DBA activities include:
  • Database maintenance ( Install, configure, and upgrade database software, performing regular backups. Monitoring databases, file growth & disk space usage, Implementing monitoring alerts and notifications to proactively identify and address potential issues)
  • Performance tuning & optimization ( Identifying & resolving performance bottlenecks using monitoring tools & techniques, analyzing query execution & optimizing T-SQL queries for enhanced performance, data archiving, purging as per mutually agreed data retention policy)
  • Troubleshooting and Support ( Diagnosing and resolving database-related issues, such as performance degradation, deadlock analysis etc.)
  • Collaborating with other IT teams to troubleshoot cross-functional issues & providing technical support and guidance to data engineers
  • Automation and Scripting ( e.g. Automating routine tasks such as database backups, index maintenance, and database health checks)
  • Security Management
  • High Availability & Disaster recovery
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing

Qualifications :

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• 15+ years of experience in Data Engineering areas with minimum hands-on coding experience of 5 years & mandatory experience in leading production support environments
• TSQL Expert with in-depth knowledge of monitoring & optimization databases
• Proficient on OLTP / OLAP / ER Diagrams / Internal Engine / Index Tuning / Statistics / Execution Plans / SP Optimization / Partitioning / Normalization / Denormalization
• Agile Development Process, Release Management & Continuous Integration & deployment knowledge
• Knowledge of NewRelic, AWS, Postgres SQL, SSIS, SSRS, Snowflake and other database and monitoring technologies are good to have
• Having been in Pager duty and/or managed people in pager duty is a good to have

Compensation: $115,000 - $140,000
