JOIN OUR TEAM AS A LEAD PUMP STATION MECHANIC!

This role involves advanced supervisory work in coordinating, supervising and participating with key personnel and /or contractors in the maintenance, fabrication, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment related to wastewater pump stations and all related equipment.

Essential Job Functions

Plans, organizes, participates and directs the work of key personnel and /or contractors in the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of pumps, motors, pipework, electrical and all appurtenances to wastewater pump stations. Instructs key personnel and /or contractors in safe practices and proper work methods. Provides technical instructions as required and makes periodic inspections to ascertain that established work methods and practices are followed. Perform and participate with safe practices of confined space entries. Coordinates with other departments and contractors for installation, repair, and maintenance assignments as needed. Submits requisitions for equipment and materials, reviews work orders for priority, clarity, and completeness. Distributes and completes work orders (CMMS) to appropriate personnel. Building detailed trends and reports within the County SCADA system. Training others to utilize the SCADA system. Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of skilled and semiskilled employees.
  • Ability to develop reports reflecting the work activities of the unit.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and the general public.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques used in the installation, repair and preventive maintenance of a wide variety of electrical motors, pumps, pipework, valves and electrical systems.
  • Ability to make inspections of pump stations to determine operating conditions of pumping / electrical equipment for needed repairs/maintenance.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, make field sketches, and initiate written and oral instructions.
  • Skills in the proper use of mechanic's tools and shop equipment in the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of pump station equipment.
  • Ability to read for comprehension.
  • Must have a telephone and be available to overtime as well as mandatory on-call rotation.
Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to lift up to 80 pounds. Ability to bend, climb, squat, stoop, and walk frequently. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Four (4) years experience with pump station maintenance.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must obtain a Florida Class "B" CDL within six (6) months from date of hire. Must obtain a Florida Class "B" permit within thirty (30) days from date of hire. Must obtain a FWPCOA Wastewater (B) Collection Technician Certification or higher within one (1) year from date of hire. Must obtain a Confined space Certification within six (6) months from date of hire.
