Summary
Under general direction from the Security Manager, the Lead Security Officer ensures a safe and secure environment by providing protective services and response measures for the hospital's people and property. This role assists in managing the daily operations of the Security Department personnel, including orientation, training, and performance evaluation of staff. The Lead Security Officer must possess strong leadership, training, operational, and investigative skills and may assume managerial responsibilities in the absence of the Security Manager.
Key Responsibilitie
Perform all duties and responsibilities of a Security Officer.
Ensure adequate coverage for shifts and special details; notify appropriate authorities of any disruptions or potential issues.
Investigate thefts, shortages, and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct; notify law enforcement as necessary and participate in court proceedings.
Patrol assigned areas, addressing security issues and identifying unsafe conditions to prevent theft, injuries, or property damage; maintain strict confidentiality.
Maintain accountability for valuables and evidence in custody, ensuring safekeeping and proper documentation.
Perform dispatcher duties, utilizing integrated security systems and providing necessary documentation.
Assist workplace and domestic violence victims, respond to medical emergencies, assist in restraining patients when authorized, and protect dignitaries.
Control pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Ensure all required training is up-to-date and report errors to the appropriate manager.
Maintain all hospital-issued uniforms and equipment.
Provide a wide range of customer services.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities (include number and type of FTEs)
Assist in managing daily operations; assume managerial duties in the absence of the Security Manager.
Assign daily duties to personnel, review pass downs, logs, journals, forms, and reports for service continuity and follow-up.
Monitor staff performance, ensuring adherence to departmental and hospital policies and customer service expectations.
Facilitate shift training and in-service training for personnel; document training records and ensure compliance with certification and standards.
Work other shifts and locations as necessary.
• Responsible for assisting with scheduling and ensuring shift coverage, including personally covering the next shift if it cannot be filled.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Experience
Education/Degree
• Required: Associate degree in criminal justice or related field.
• Preferred: Bachelor degree in criminal justice or related field.
Experience
• Required: One year of supervisory level experience with extensive use of written and verbal communication skills, problem-solving, and public relations.
• Preferred: Two-Three years of supervisory experience in a healthcare, law enforcement, or security department/agency.
Licensure
• Required: Massachusetts Driver's License or a valid license in the employee's state of residence.
• Required: Obtain AVADE Instructor certification within six months of hire.
Skills
• Required: Computer proficiency; familiarity with Microsoft Office applications preferred with the ability to learn new software.
• Preferred: Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills for working with a diverse population, ability to work independently and as part of a team, initiative in anticipating challenges and developing strategies, high level of service delivery, and strong attention to detail.
