General Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Sterile Processing Supervisor, the Lead Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontamination, assembly and preparation, sterilization, and distribution of medical instruments and supplies to the operating room and minor equipment items throughout the hospital. General Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Sterile Processing Supervisor, the Lead Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontamination, assembly and preparation, sterilization, and distribution of medical instruments and supplies to the operating room and minor equipment items throughout the hospital. The position shall exemplify the desired Culture of Choice® and philosophies of Parrish Healthcare.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow established protocols for cleaning, decontaminating, preparing and packaging, disinfecting or sterilizing, and storing medical and surgical supplies and equipment.
- Distribute medical and surgical supplies from sterile processing areas to other areas within the facility or health care organization as needed.
- Adhere to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment.
- Follow safety procedures and manufacturer's instructions when handling cleaning solutions, supplies and equipment.
- Operate equipment used in the sterile processing areas safely and according to the manufacturer's instructions for use.
- Monitor, interpret, and document results of physical, chemical and biological indicators for all types of sterilizers used in the sterile processing areas.
- Inventory, receive, and restock materials used for supporting sterile processing services.
- Comply with organizational policies, regulatory and accreditation standards, and professional guidelines.
- Exhibit professional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Assist with improving the quality of sterile processing services.
- Assist with identifying pertinent evidence to establish benchmarks as directed.
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
- Conducts routine weekly assignments within the department relating to quality control and monitoring.
- Participates in ongoing in-service of new equipment items to ensure proper washing and sterilization techniques.
- Responsible to attend all Huddle/Unit Meetings in the absence of the Sterile Processing Supervisor.
- Support and integrate current evidence into sterile processing services.
- Assist in ensuring sterile processing services team member compliance with organizational policies, regulatory and accreditation standards, and professional guidelines.
- Provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback to sterile processing services team.
- Assist in the collecting comprehensive data necessary to support sterile processing services.
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
- Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area.
Formal Education:
- Vocational or other technical school, certification, training or apprenticeship required beyond high school.
Work Experience:
- 1 year to <2 years with at least one year in Sterile Processing
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
- Central Supply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT), Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification or Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) certification required upon hire.
