Job Title : Lead Therapeutic Recreation Assistant

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for maintaining the Therapeutic Recreation programs, as listed in the units' monthly activities calendar, including group and one-to-one therapeutic recreation to all residents including those with Alzheimer's disease and other dementia-related disorders.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Facilitates the therapeutic recreation programs by assisting residents during group activities, ensures following of the activity schedule, and provides assistance with transportation for residents during recreation activities.

• Supervises the day-to-day functions of Therapeutic Recreation Assistant assigned to you, including disseminating pertinent information

• Responsible for weekly updates to leadership regarding activities reports

• Reviews morning census for new admissions, completes an initial assessment within 48 hours of admission and properly documents in electronic health records by end of shift

• Prepares accurate, complete, and legible patient/resident's documentation established department deadlines for recording documentation.

• Engages with residents, families, and co-workers to meet their needs as it relates to patient/resident care while using customer service competencies.

• Responsible for all aspects of planning, organizing, and assisting in special events with external entities.

• Plans, organizes, and assists residents in field trips on a monthly basis

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

• Associate degree from an accredited institution

• Bachelor's Degree preferred

Experience:

• Eligible for certification as therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activity professional by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990; or

• Two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, one of which was full-time in a therapeutic recreation program, or

• Is a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant; or

• Has completed a training course approved by the state of Florida

Licenses/Certifications:

• CPR and First-Aid Certification preferred

Abilities required:

• Friendly, outgoing, positive personality

• Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of the work group, residents, families, and volunteers

• Sensitivity to the needs of the elderly

• Basic computer knowledge required

• Able to walk/stand/transport residents in their wheelchair the entire shift

• Knowledge of documentation desirable

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS:

Environment Work Conditions:

• Normal working condition with adequate lighting and ventilation

• Required to walk reasonable distances

• Pushing and pulling of patients from 50-450 pounds in wheelchairs

Infectious Material Exposure:

• Occasional exposure to blood/body fluids/tissues
