The essential job responsibilities of the Lead, Water Quality Control Analyst will report to the Manager. Lead, Water Quality Control Analyst train and direct work to laboratory personnel engaged in chemical and bacteriological tests on water in the use of complex analytical instruments such as inductively plasma mass spectrometry, gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry and atomic absorption in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Tennessee Department of Environment and Conversation (TDEC), and Division of Water Resources Public Water System TDEC Rule 0400-49-01-.04. Train and direct work to laboratory personnel performing chemical, bacteriological analysis on raw and treated water. Serve as project lead on regulatory projects. Provide instructional/ technical assistance to laboratory staff and comply with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Tennessee Department Energy and Conversation (TDEC) Division of Water Resources Public Water System TDEC Rule 0400-49-01-.04. Analyze various water samples to determine origin atomic absorption, gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy; interpret results and record pertinent information; use complex instruments to analyze water for various metals and organic compounds. Perform various chemical, bacteriological analysis on raw and treated water, interpret and record results in laboratory information management system (LIMS). Analyze/ identify various performance evaluation samples sent from EPA or approved laboratory for the purpose of maintaining TDEC certification. Investigate/ identify bacteria and the case of contamination problems; instruct personnel in removal or deactivation; inspect aerators and filters to ascertain operation and effectiveness; collect water samples for testing. Coordinate work with local government agencies and other MLGW Departments. Handle special customer complaints and provide technical assistance to existing and prospective customers. Prepare the Tennessee Department of Energy and Conversation reports and other regulatory reports by utilizing the laboratory information management system (LIMS) and personnel computer software and keep abreast of the latest development of water regulations and standards from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Tennessee Department of Energy and Conversation (TDEC). Perform other duties as directed.

Qualification Requirements:
To perform the Lead Water Quality Control Analyst role, you must: -Grade IV Water of State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conversation Water Certification. -Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field. -Must have two (2) years of instrumentation experience including ICP/MS, AA, GC/MS, and IC, five (5) years of experience preferred. -Must obtain a Grade IV Water Treatment Operator's License from State of Tennessee Board of Water within 36 months of entering the job. -Must be certified annually in chemical and microbiological analyses to comply with Section 1401 of the Safe Drinking Water Act Public law 93-523. -Must complete Hazardous Waste Materials Training (29 CFR 191 0. 120) and successfully complete NIMS Training within one year of entering the job. -Must pass the Color Blind I Test. -Must have a valid driver's license from state of residence.
Physical Working Conditions: Works majority of the time inside under good conditions. Subject to hazards of working with chemicals, standing / walking for long periods of time, and medium lifting of supplies/ equipment.
