The majority of the work schedule is remote. Onsite attendance is required approximately once per quarter.

DESCRIPTION

The Leave of Absence Case Manager will serve as an advisor and administrator of leave of absence programs for various leave types (FMLA, CFRA, Pregnancy Disability Leave, Military, etc.). Communicating effectively and confidentially with employees/supervisors/managers/timekeepers, the analyst will ensure timely, accurate processing of leave of absence requests in accordance with UCSD policies and federal and state laws, and will serve as the subject matter expert regarding protected leaves of absence.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Determine eligibility for various leave types requested by employee, and provide employees with required timely notice.
  • Counsel employees and supervisors concerning qualifications of leave and related employee benefits.
  • Documents leave management activities in the case management system in a timely, accurate and professional manner.
  • Update HR Information System for leaves of absence.
  • Verify all medical documentation and FML Certification forms, and understand information contained; may require follow-up communication to clarify content.
  • Maintain continuous contact with employees on leave and coordinate all aspects of timekeeping, restrictions for work, and Return to Work guidance.
  • Maintain employee leave records which include confidential medical information in accordance with federal and state laws, and company policies and procedures.
  • May work with employee relations, worker's compensation and/or accommodations units at UCSD , when necessary.
  • Produce and manage reporting metrics and analytics for all leaves.
  • Contributes to process/service improvements to gain efficiencies and/or enhance the customer experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of experience processing and managing leaves of absences.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of FMLA, CFRA, PDLL, USERRA, ERISA and HIPAA.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to explain policies and procedures, and union contract articles as related to leaves of absences.
  • Proven time management, organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with others, including ability to manage projects effectively, and taking initiative and using sound judgment.
  • Must have a high degree of confidentiality and demonstrate respect and due diligence in sensitive situations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working at the University of California system.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $67,200 - $119,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $32.18 - $57.28

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
