Job Description

Under the overall supervision of the Engineering Librarian, responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Engineering Library and Technology Commons (EL&TC) along with one other Library Information Specialist Sr. This position primarily manages outreach, the development of digital content, and interlibrary loan services. The position also has secondary responsibility for performing reference work using print and electronic resources available for the EL&TC. Finally, performs circulation work as well as collection maintenance and technical services and provides some administrative support for the Engineering Librarian.

Key Job Duties:
Outreach, Engagement, and Digital Content
- Revise and maintain hours of operations on the EL&TC Library web page;
- Communicate with library technical services (LTS) about any appropriate changes or additions needed to the library web page;
- Create and manage content for EL&TC signage and social media accounts in conjunction with the MU Libraries social media and marketing teams;
- Create and produce thoughtful programming and events for students, faculty, and staff that utilize EL&TC;
- Serve as NewsHub reporter for EL&TC.
Reference & Instruction
-Perform in-depth reference work using print and digital sources available in the Engineering Library & Technology Commons (EL&TC). Assist students, faculty, and staff one-on-one with the use of the databases located in the EL&TC;
- Assist Engineering librarian in the creation and answering of LibAnswers questions.
- Assist Engineering Librarian with providing general instruction sessions for graduate and undergraduate engineering classes;
- Construct and maintain LibGuides webpages alongside the Engineering Librarian.
Circulation, Reserve, Interlibrary Loan
- Assist patrons at the circulation desk. These duties include the charge and discharge of library materials, handling billing and fining questions, and communicating overdue, recall, and billing questions in conjunction with the automated notices system;
- Use bibliographic resources to assist both patrons and the MU Libraries ILL department with accruing information and locating materials for difficult or incomplete citations;
- Monitor and Maintain EL&TC holds shelf;
- Scan and deliver ILL article scans from the EL&TC general collection to the MU Libraries ILL department based on ILL requests.
Technology Reserves and Support
- Inventory, manage, and maintain EL&TC's multimedia and technology equipment;
- Act as the primary troubleshooter when equipment and software issues occur;
- Resolve computer problems in library and work with LTS to solve computer-related problems;
- Assist patrons with software, PC, and printing problems.
Technical Services and Collection Maintenance
- Responsible for periodical and series subscriptions received in the EL&TC;
- Communicate with Ellis library pertaining to bindery operations, collection operations, and reference questions;
- Maintain library stacks and participate in collection and stacks maintenance projects such as sending materials to off-site storage, inventories, shifting, and weeding;
Facilities Management
- Initiating communication to request repair of library furniture, replacement of lightbulbs, and report any issues to be handled by College of Engineering or MU Libraries facilities.
Supervise Student Assistants
- Assist in interviewing, hiring, training, and supervising student assistants each semester;
- Assist in designating work assignments and overseeing the progress and scheduling of student employees.
Periodic Duties
- Responsible for retrieving EL&TC mail from the mailroom;
- Design, prepare, and construct exhibits and displays in the EL&TC.
- Prepare manuals, handouts, presentations, and brochures as needed;
- Assist with data collection for EL&TC Libraries Annual Report and monthly usage statistics;
- Shared responsibility for opening and closing the library as needed;
- Attend meetings, workshops, and classes.

Shift

40 hours per week. During Fall and Spring semesters, 8:00am-5:00pm. During Summer sessions, 7:30am-4:30pm. This position will coordinate with the librarian and other Library Information Specialist Sr on scheduling. Some flexibility is allowed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on:
  • Research and database searching experience. Excellent computer skills and good working knowledge of HTML and web functions.
  • Ability to work effectively with patrons and staff.
  • One year of library, archives or museum experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and meet speed and accuracy goals.


Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $16.72 to $25.97 per hour
