  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus five (5) years' experience in security-related position, two (2) years, which were in a lead or supervisor capacity.

The Library Security Supervisor position is responsible for the safety and security for staff, vendors/contractors, and the public. The individual in this position coordinates and manages presence and activities of scheduled security personnel at all Library locations, to include yards, parking lots/garages, and other surrounding areas.

  • Travel: If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards, per the City of Austin Driver Safety Program , you may drive (when necessary) to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
  • Driving Requirement:This position requires a Valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

WORK HOURS :
  • Shift may change according to departmental needs. Work hours may include after-hours, holidays, and weekend work.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL
  • This position is categorized as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather if they are scheduled to work and in some cases when they are not scheduled.

VETERAN :
  • Veteran candidates will be required to provide a copy of their DD214 at the time of the interview.

LANGUAGE :
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and fluently speak in English.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience responding to and documenting security violations.
  • Experience managing security/public safety supervisors, leads, and /or line personnel with 24-hour 365-day coverage.
  • Experience managing security teams.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
  • Coordinates and manages presence and activities of scheduled security personnel all Library locations, to include yards, parking lots/garages, and other surrounding areas.
  • Secures security contracts through the City's bidding process to secure additional security staff for events.
  • Provides direction and training to security personnel, contract employees, and other City departments regarding Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and other training areas.
  • Reviews site documentation, activity, and incident reports for the department.
  • Issue, manages, and enforces Criminal Trespass Notices ( CTN ) in close collaboration with Austin Police Department ( APD ).
  • Acts as a steward of the Library and anticipates and solves problems for Library patrons, educating rule violators on library safety rules and regulations.
  • Monitors welfare of security personnel working after-hours and at remote assignments.
  • Coordinate, transport and safeguard cash pick up and drop offs at all Library locations.
  • Responds to after-hour emergency situations, incidents, and alarm notifications as necessary.
  • Meets and provides law enforcement agencies and first responders access to secured and/or energized areas as needed.
  • Provides periodic reports to management regarding site activities, irregularities, and identifies needed action.
  • Works outside scheduled hours to ensure appropriate shift coverage, attend trainings, meetings, and/or other activities, as needed, to meet the business needs of the organization and the workgroup.
