DUTIES: Performs skilled practical nursing procedures or treatments (e.g. administers oxygen; conducts blood glucose testing; applies sterile dressing, inserts catheters; gives enemas & douches; collects specimens), assists physicians (e.g. with client & new employee physical exams, treatments &/or lab tests) & assists in emergencies (e.g. first aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, restraining clients), conducts neurological & circulation assessments (e.g. aspirin, anticonvulsants, antihypertensives, decongestives, antihistamines, thyroid & cardiovascular preps, psychotropic) medication in oral, rectal or injection form (i.e. administers intramuscular & subcutaneous injections & TB skin tests), provides medication instructions to clients. Maintains medication records (e.g. charts client records, prepares & counts medication, maintains medication stock & medical equipment & supplies). Provides general nursing, direct care (e.g. takes client vital signs; assists with personal grooming & hygiene, bathing or daily living activities; administers topical ointments & solutions, eye, ear &/or nose drops; applies bandages & warm/cold compresses, escorts clients & assists with recreational activities). Provides assistance (i.e. provides work direction, orientation & training) to lower-level direct care staff (e.g. TPW's) in providing general unskilled nursing care (e.g. dressing, bathing, feeding ) to clients & attends & participates in various meetings (e.g. in-service training, nursing) as assigned. Observes, documents & reports client conditions (e.g. medication reactions, treatment responses, client behavior & progress) & prepares &/or maintains related reports & records (e.g. nursing health assessments, unusual incident reports, client records, medication reports & performs clerical tasks (e.g. filing, duplicating, answering phone) as required to record client data.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SPECIAL EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of skilled licensed practical nursing procedures; pharmacology; client care; first aid; general hospital practices & procedures; agency, institutional, hospital or clinic practices & procedures*. Skill in use of medical equipment (e.g. respirator, sterilizer, oxygen equipment, blood pressure cuff) hypodermics. Ability to understand practical field of study; deal with some abstract, but mostly concrete variables; recognize unusual or threatening conditions & take appropriate emergency action; develop good rapport with patients &/or clients; understand manuals & verbal instructions associated with practical nursing. *Developed after employment

Qualifications
License to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 Ohio Revised Code & proof of completion of an approved course in medication administration.

Note: Licensed Practical Nurses who administer dialysis treatment must possess Certification in IV Therapy pursuant to Section 4723.17 Ohio Revised Code.

What you'll do as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Cambridge Developmental Center:
  • Medication and treatment administration.
  • Checking residents per direct care staff concerns and post incident.
  • Completing documentation - i.e. 24-hour report, nursing notes, medication administration record and physician orders.
  • Acts as a liaison with physicians by communicating medical concerns of residents with physicians and other medical consultants and then informing team members of treatment recommendations.
  • Attends meetings i.e. medication reviews, admission/discharge and special team meetings.
  • Assists with physical exams of individuals.
  • Preparing and filing medical related documents.
  • 60 cent shift differential for all hours worked on 2 nd or 3 rd shift.
  • Pay increase after 180 days.
  • Every other weekend off.
  • Mandatory hours are required.
