Job Duties

The Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents is currently seeking either a fresh graduate or experienced individual to work as a part-time Licensed Practical Nurse on 2nd shift, alongside our Pediatrician to help in the pediatric clinic. Shift hours 130p-930pm Monday and Wednesday every week, hours may vary based on pediatrician availability.

The LPN provides quality nursing care to our pediatric psychiatric patients based on standards of nursing practice and care within the scope of license. Candidate will be responsible for:

- Communicating with pediatric provider earlier in the day to obtain the list of patients to be seen.
- Communicating with each unit RNs if there are patients needing to be seen by pediatrician. Collect relevant data for each patient such as lab results or outside records.
- Review the pediatric consult order in a patient chart. You can communicate with each unit RNs if there are patients need to be seen by pediatrician.
- Get the patient from the unit and escort to the clinic and return the patient back to the unit.
- Remain in the clinic while pediatrician examine the patient.
- Assist in minor procedures (specimen collections or other minor procedures)
- Ensure the medical equipment are sanitized based on the standard of practice after any procedure.
- Complete labs slip if needed and transport the specimen to Augusta health.
- Communicate with pediatrician if any follow up is needed for the patient.
- Communicate the follow up with the unit RN and document it in the patient chart.

Paid Shift Differential on 2nd shift $3.50/hr.

Minimum Qualifications

- Current, Virginia license to practice as a LPN or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement is accepted.
- Knowledge of illness and treatment modalities to include medication administration.
- Ability to implement nursing care plan and provide guidance to other staff.
- Ability to delegate and supervise nursing staff. Effective communication (written, verbal and sign).
- Ability to participate in interdisciplinary team. Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
- Ability to work overtime due to staffing emergencies in a 24 hour 7 day per week psychiatric hospital which at times may mean working a 16-hour shift if and when necessary.
- Complete all annual competency training to include TOVA III with physical restraints
- Complete and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers with the American Heart Association
- Demonstrates knowledge of recovery/trauma informed care.
