Unit Highlights

Nurses in 3 East care for a diverse patient population that includes those with Acquired/Traumatic Brain Injury and Strokes. This 40-bed unit treats patients with Brain & Spinal Cord tumors, Strokes, hemorrhagic and ischemic infarcts, SAH, Anoxic or hypoxic brain injury, Parkinson's Disease, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, and disorders of the central nervous system, GBS (Group B Streptococcus) , Tracheostomies etc.

The program is certified by the Center for the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and renowned for innovative care through an evidenced- based, multidisciplinary team approach to recovery. Our nurses are specially trained to care for and manage patients with both cognitive and physical impairments, including behavioral and agitation management. Some unique opportunities include CRRN certification, collaboration with the interdisciplinary team (MD, PT, OT, SLP, Case Management etc.) and Agitation Management Skills.

Key Responsibilities

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a key member of the interdisciplinary team to deliver patient-centered rehabilitation nursing services to individuals with a disability and/or chronic illness to attain and maintain maximum function. The rehabilitation LPN assists patients in adapting to an altered lifestyle, while providing a therapeutic environment for client's and their family's development. The rehabilitation LPN designs and implements treatment strategies based on scientific nursing theory related to self-care and promotes physical, psychosocial, and spiritual health.

The LPN must be compassionate towards patients and family members, be able to work in a fast-paced environment, excellent communication skills and work in a team of various medical professionals. The LPN perform in roles as Teachers, Caregivers, Collaborators and Client Advocates. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, you will add \"Life to Years\" for the patients you will serve.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing required .


  • Minimum of one (1) year experience required . New graduates considered based on student clinical experiences .


  • Active LPN l icense in the District of Columbia and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required .
