Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager I (SSM I), the Office Technician (Typing) will perform a variety of clerical support and is responsible for processing and issuing facility licenses and permits, various Licensing Unit activities and some accounts receivable activities for the Branch.
• Process new applications and renewals and issue licenses and/or permits (~8,500) for milk plants of all types including milk products plant licenses, Frozen Milk Products Plant licenses, Semi-Frozen (soft serve) licenses, Diabetic and Dietetic licenses, Limited Packaging permits, Limited Manufacturing permits, Product Resembling Milk Products licenses, and Vitamin and Mineral permits.
• Responsible for mailing completed licenses and renewals to all applicants
• Provide license application information to the public upon request
• Audit daily Report of Collections report for accuracy and compliance with regulations, policies and procedures
• Update and maintain accounts receivable data into branch database
• Maintain and transfer a current delinquent list of all accounts including dishonored checks to field staff
• Prepare, type, and issue letters for all delinquent accounts
• Maintain the accounts receivable functions related to soft-serve establishments within all county Approved Milk Inspection Services (AMIS)
• Prepare a monthly summary statement of accounts
• Act as the main telephone receptionist for the branch, answering telephone calls on a multi-line phone system, assisting customers directly, or otherwise directing calls to appropriate staff
• Respond to industry telephone and e-mail inquiries

Working Conditions
The duties of this position are primarily conducted indoors on the third floor of a four-story office building in Sacramento, CA. The office is accessible through a street entrance, lobby, and wide hallway. An elevator and stairway off the lobby provides access to third story of the building. The office includes a cubicle type workstation, desk chair, file cabinets, computer with various software programs, including E-mail, a printer, and a telephone with voicemail.
The incumbent must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with those contacted during the course of work; work well under pressure and work independently in completing assigned work and meeting required deadlines.

Department Information
The Milk and Dairy Food Safety Branch is responsible for ensuring that milk, dairy products, and products resembling milk products (PRMP's) are safe, unadulterated, and properly labeled to safeguard public health. The Branch inspects dairy farms, bulk milk tanker trucks, and milk processing plants; issues permits and licenses to dairy farms and processing facilities; collects samples for regulatory testing to ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards; reviews product labels for conformance with regulations to avoid misleading information for consumers; completes in-depth reviews and food safety assessments of complex equipment or novel processing methods, and evaluates and licenses technical food safety competencies of dairy industry workers. The Branch also responds to food safety incidents, and initiates product impounds and recalls as warranted.
