Description:
The Regional Literacy Specialist will provide and support networking opportunities, literacy information, coaching and resources for teachers, education leaders, and community members. The regional literacy specialist will assist an identified targeted district in developing its capacity through direct coaching and support within the district and identified building(s). They aim to have a positive impact on the literacy outcomes of children from preschool to grade twelve. This work will be integrated into the application of leadership structures and the Ohio Improvement Process as implemented by districts with the support of the State Support Teams. Finally, the literacy specialists provide support and guidance for building effective literacy systems and implementing evidence-based instruction through their role in the ReadOhio Network and their region's support team for literacy.
Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
- A master's degree in reading or literacy education, or master's degree in a related area with either reading or literacy endorsements on state license
- Expertise in how to improve student learning through the implementation of high-quality
evidenced-based reading/literacy strategies
- Completion of a professional development program accredited by the International Dyslexia Association (accreditation or accreditation plus level)
- Three to five years of successful classroom teaching that includes reading/literacy
instruction in grades preschool-grade twelve.
- Experience as a provider of professional development and technical assistance specific to evidence-based language and literacy development
- Evidence of previous development of professional development materials specific to
language and literacy development
- Experience with coaching and consulting skills
- Experience designing and implementing district-wide or school-wide multi-tiered system of supports.
- Knowledge of how to analyze and use student data and adult implementation data
- Experience working with administrators
- Experience facilitating or participating in the Ohio Improvement Process
- Valid Driver's license
- Complies with drug free workplace rules and board policies
- Documentation of clear criminal record
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with culturally responsive practices
- Experience facilitating and interpreting screening measures for identifying students at-risk for reading failure
- Experience providing and coaching structured literacy instruction
- Experience designing and implementing district-wide or school-wide multi-tiered system of supports
- Experience providing instruction to individuals with dyslexia or individuals with risk factors for dyslexia preferred
- Experience coaching and providing consultation to adult learners
- Administrative license
- At least 5 years successful classroom teaching, working with school personnel to improve literacy instruction
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Provide Intensive Support for Identified ReadOhio District and Building
- Regional Literacy Professional Development and Technical Assistance
3 Regional Literacy Networking through Communities of Practice and/or Networked Improvement Communities
- Support Implementation of Ohio's Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement
a. Read Ohio Network
- Engage in collaborative models for identifying needs, problem-solving and
- Engage in inquiry cycles, including testing, data collection and analysis to inform
- Support the development and implementation of sustainable statewide systems
b. Regional Support Teams for Literacy
- Attend monthly professional learning and networking sessions alongside regional
- Lead discussions and collaboration to support building collective knowledge and
- Build relationships and collaborative partnerships around literacy to members of
- Work collaboratively with educational service centers and Department staff
service delivery agreement with the SST to ensure support is aligned to Ohio's
Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement
- Participate in professional learning to deepen content knowledge and further
strengthen skills.
