Who You Are:

The LNA in the ICU assists the healthcare team by providing basic patient care under the supervision of Registered Nurses (RNs) and physicians. This role focuses on monitoring critically ill patients, ensuring their comfort, and helping with various medical and personal care tasks.

What You'll Do:
  1. Patient Care Support:
    • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, toileting, and feeding.
    • Turn and reposition patients to prevent pressure ulcers.
    • Assist with range-of-motion exercises for patients, as directed by the healthcare team.
    • Help patients with mobility, including transferring them between beds and wheelchairs.
  2. Vital Signs Monitoring:
    • Measure and record patients' vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen levels.
    • Monitor patients for any changes in condition and report concerns to nurses and doctors.
    • Assist with continuous monitoring of ICU patients, including checking monitors and medical equipment.
  3. Medical Equipment Assistance:
    • Assist in the setup, use, and maintenance of medical equipment such as oxygen tanks, heart monitors, and suction machines.
    • Keep track of equipment and report any malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
  4. Patient Documentation:
    • Document patient care activities, including intake and output records, vital signs, and any care provided.
    • Ensure that accurate and timely information is shared with the rest of the medical team.
  5. Infection Control and Cleanliness:
    • Maintain a clean and sterile environment in patient rooms, ensuring all surfaces and equipment are properly disinfected.
    • Follow ICU protocols to prevent infection, including wearing protective equipment and following hand hygiene guidelines.
  6. Emotional and Psychological Support:
    • Provide emotional support and comfort to patients and their families.
    • Communicate patient needs and concerns to nursing staff.
  7. Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
    • Work closely with RNs, doctors, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the best care for patients.
    • Assist during emergencies and critical interventions by providing support as needed.
  8. Administrative and Logistical Support:
    • Stock ICU rooms with necessary supplies.
    • Transport patients to different areas of the hospital if necessary.
    • Answer call lights and assist patients or families with questions.


Qualifications

What You'll Bring:
  • Education : High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Licensure : Valid LNA certification in the state of employment.
  • Experience : Previous experience in ICU or critical care settings is preferred.
  • Skills :
    • Ability to handle high-stress situations and work well under pressure.
    • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
    • Attention to detail and ability to follow detailed medical protocols.
    • Compassionate care for critically ill patients and their families.
