JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary: To coordinate and provide academic and functional instruction to support the educational programming for eligible young children through assessment, progress monitoring, and writing and implementation of a free and appropriate public education.

Essential Functions:

  • Follows all state (Chapter 14 and Act 212) and federal (IDEA) mandates as well as all OCDEL Announcements and Bureau of Special Education Basic Education Circulars.
  • Reviews procedural safeguards and summarizes for families a minimum of one time per year.
  • Completes evaluations (ER) and re-evaluations (RR), including all required components and input from team members and the family.
  • Develops and implements Individualized Education Plans (IEP). Goals are written according to the child's baseline and rate of acquisition and must be aligned to the PA Common Core, pre-K standards.
  • Convenes all required meetings related to evaluations and IEPs.
  • Gathers and records progress monitoring data on all goals as specified by the IEP.
  • Reviews progress monitoring data regularly to determine acquisition of skills and/or the need for changes in instruction.
  • Observes, evaluates, and prepares reports on progress of students specified by the IEP.
  • Plans and prepares lessons and other instructional materials according to the baseline data and goals from the IEP.
  • Utilizes Pelican to keep all required data fields and all required paperwork updated, including but not limited to ERs, RRs, Invitations, IEPs, and NOREPs, entrance and exit data (ECO).
  • Responds to and updates at least annually the ECS audit.
  • Uses a data base to maintain current records that include but are not limited to: caseload; student demographics; attendance; due dates for required documents; therapy/instruction notes shared with families and other caregivers.
  • Communicates regularly, both written and orally, with families. It is expected that all written communication contains proper grammar and punctuation, and appropriately reflects the professional nature of the Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22.
  • Communicates regularly with families to provide support and communication in using community resources.
  • Administers and interprets results of ability and achievement tests.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings and implements information into daily best practices.
  • Has ability to drive to serve children in homes, preschools, day cares, and/or other natural environments throughout Bucks County, as assigned.
  • Orders supplemental supplies as needed.
  • Fulfills all other job duties as assigned by ECS Supervisors.

Supervisory Responsibility: Serves as team leader for all IEP team members, ensuring all legal mandates are met and IEPs are implemented. As the lead communicator, the Teacher will ensure all other service providers and team members, including the parent, are updated and informed of student progress and needs.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands. The employee is frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for long periods, and to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, 193-day calendar position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Hours are dependent on the needs of the districts. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Qualifications

Education and Experience :

Level of Degree:

  • Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university
  • PA Certificate in Special Education


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • CPI training
  • Experience in Special Education and working with young children preferred


Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable) : Citizenship or work authorization to work in the United States required.
