SUMMARY: The LPN Nursing Supervisor performs professional supervisory nursing practice in the care of the physically and mentally ill. Work involves responsibility for supervising the provision of quality nursing care given at the facility. The position is responsible for maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practice; for coordinating nursing programs; for recognizing and assisting in solving professional, administrative and supervisory problems. Position exercises considerable judgment in applying professional knowledge in solving nursing problems within established policies and practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise/Administer and/or assist with medications to assigned residents.
  • Report to Director of Nursing change in condition, daily needs, and progress of residents.
  • Follow the plan of care for each resident.
  • Responsible for all aspects of receiving, storing and distributing controlled substance medications; ensure proper placement and use of medication stored by facility including med cart and medication room refrigerator.
  • Maintain documentation regarding the provision of care to residents in the Case Notes, Medication Administration Records and other required records.
  • Assist in problem-solving related to staffing, supplies and resident care during shift.
  • Ensure that resident care standards are maintained in performance of duties, and that the rights of residents and preferences in care and treatment are respected.
  • Receive and store lost/found articles and notify the Director of Nursing.
  • Ensure that residents are always treated with respect and kindness.
  • Assign, direct, review, instruct and check the work of all nursing staff on your shift.
  • Maintain shift staffing levels and manage absences.
  • Respond and resolve identified concerns regarding personnel and residents.
  • Responsible for making periodic unit rounds to ensure staff are performing.
  • Document changes in resident conditions.
  • As required, provide direct nursing care to residents.
  • Participate in the nursing on-call rotation.
  • Direct the investigation and disposition of complaints or inquiries.

  • Ensures that the clinical operations are in compliance with federal, state and local regulations while honoring person-centered care.
  • Promotes the highest level of care in terms of management of care plan practicing according to current standard of practice utilizing appropriate resources that include EMR.
  • Has a working knowledge and understanding of the observation/assessment and documentation process including the MDS as applicable.
  • Observes resident status as necessary to assure quality care and coordinates with other resident services to assure continuity of care.
  • Provides leadership for staff to maintain clinical policies and procedures in accordance with current standards and community policies and procedures.
  • Implements clinical policies and procedures which ensure safe, sanitary and efficient practices supporting professional standards of nursing care.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and functional environment by assessing potential hazards and implements practices to maintain optimum safety.
  • Oversees night patient care provided by night clinical staff.
