Job Description

General Purpose

Providing care to and assessment of Caregivers and those providing support at Sparrow Health System, under the direction of CHS RNs, to ensure safe performance of job functions and providing services to ensure compliance with applicable policies and regulations. Triage Caregiver injuries and coordinate follow-up care as appropriate. Manage initial evaluation and follow-up for Caregiver exposures with Infection Prevention and Human Resources. Managing and coordinating immunization clinics to support infection prevention measures and Caregiver safety.

Essential Duties
  • Prepare charts for pre-hire physicals, administers vaccines at the direction of CHS RNs, and performs clinincal and adminstrative tasks for the department
  • Checking in Caregiver injuries and coordinates follow-up care as determined by the CHS APP and/or RN.
  • In conjunction with CHS RNs perform initial evaluations and follow-up for Caregiver exposures with Infection Prevention and Human Resources.
  • Provide support to coordinate immunization clinics in service of infection prevention measures and Caregiver safety.
  • Prepare Caregivers for exam(s) and/or assist RN or Provider with exam, procedure or treatment.
  • Performs clinical tasks at the direction of CHS RNs independently including, but not limited to, vision and hearing testing, cultures, TB skin testing, vaccinations (as appropriate based on competencies and certification), breath alcohol testing.
  • At the direction of CHS RNs, obtains blood draws and processes appropriately for transport to Lab. May obtain vital signs. Collects specimens for urinalysis and/or drug testing according to DOT standard guidelines.
  • Perform focused pre-hire assessments/physicals for new Caregivers of Sparrow Health System (SHS), and communicate results and findings to the CHS RNs for review prior to documenting in the electronic medical recordkeeping system.
  • In conjunction with CHS RNs, perform initial respiratory fit testing and PAPR training on new Sparrow Health System caregivers, and record results in the electronic medical recordkeeping system.
  • Conduct vaccine management, in collaboration with CHS RNs, for SHS caregivers and others who provide services to Sparrow, including interpreting laboratory tests (titers), and administering various vaccines (ex. Influenza; MMR; Varicella; TDap; Hepatitis A/B, COVID, etc.)
  • Supports compliance with tuberculosis screening/testing on SHS caregivers and others who provide services to Sparrow, including interpreting laboratory tests (Quantiferon Gold), and providing appropriate follow up based on results, in conjunction with CHS RNs.
  • Adhere to and be a role model of compliance with Caregiver Health Services departmental policies and procedures, and related policies and procedures including Infection Prevention, Safety and Human Resources.
  • Assist with reviewing and updating Caregiver Health Services (CHS) departmental policies and procedures with the input of Caregiver Health Services team, Leadership and Medical Director. Seek opportunities for process or policy improvement or greater clarity.
  • At the direction of CHS RNs, coordinates the necessary exposure follow up including documentation of exposures using the electronic medical recordkeeping system.
  • Assists with compliance reporting for Sparrow leadership and assist management in the and supplies maintenance.
  • Collaborates with Sparrow Human Resources, Safety, and Infection Prevention departments to help enhance the health and safety of Sparrow caregivers system-wide.
  • Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow's ICARE Values, and respecting the Privacy and Confidentiality of those we serve and interact with, every person, every time.
  • Demonstrates compliance with HIPAA privacy and confidentiality regulations. Respects Caregiver and organizational confidentiality.


Job Requirements

General Requirements

Current Michigan LPN license. Obtain and maintain Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.

Work Experience

Minimum of one (1) year clinical experience as an Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Clinical experience in Occupational health, Employee health, Medical-Surgical, Rehabilitation, and/or Long-Term/Skilled Nursing settings PREFERRED Experience with the electronic medical recordkeeping system for Caregiver health PREFERRED

Education

Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to assess and recommend course of action (SBAR) consistent with scope of LPN Ability to work autonomously and as part of a group. Ability to prioritize tasks in an appropriate, timely, and efficient manner. Excellent critical thinking and clinical assessment skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Proficient user of Microsoft Office tools (excel, word, etc.)
