PSI is looking for a Special Needs School Health LPN for medically fragile students as a FLOAT in the Akron/Canton area.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SCHOOL HEALTH SPECIAL NEEDS LPN

As the Special Needs School Health LPN, you will assist in providing one on one care to a student who is medically fragile in their classroom and also possibly during their transportation to and from school. You will be providing services to schools that work toward the good health and wellness of students and improvement of health conditions in general. You independently assess children's health needs in order to obtain the information necessary for medical services and to develop health plans that help meet the functional and health needs of each child served. Friendly and personable, you warmly interact with these children, always serving them with patience and kindness. The children we serve may face a variety of developmental, educational, and health challenges they are working to overcome. You continually assess their needs and administer medical intervention services, first aid services, and administer medication in accordance with school district and psi policies. You will also complete and maintain required documentation of student health records. You will collaborate with educational professionals and promote healthy relationships between community health providers and students, parents, and the community at large. You partner with families to help them navigate any health challenges in the school environment. You use your medical expertise to improve the lives of children in ways that are enjoyable and rewarding!

Qualifications

  • Current LPN license through the Ohio Board of Nursing
  • Experience working with medically fragile children strongly preferred
  • Must be knowledgeable about communicable disease prevention and medication protocol
  • Knowledge of HIPAA laws & ability to appropriately handle confidential information
  • Experience with trach care, vent care, tube feeding, catheterization strongly preferred
  • Collaborative, constructive team building skills are required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills

If hired, must obtain a current BLS/CPR and/or First Aid certification depending on position and complete a BCI/FBI Background check in compliance with Ohio Administrative Code Rule 3301-20-01.
