Responsibilities

Primarily responsible for the ongoing clinical care of LVAD patients.
  • Coordinates, develops and implements the LVAD Program, in collaboration with the Advanced Heart Failure team.
  • Collaborates with all clinicians throughout the continuum of care to assess and analyze outcome data and promote quality LVAD outcomes.
  • Facilitates nursing and ancillary department education regarding LVAD.
  • Assists with education at community level including but not limited to external hospitals, EMS and referring physicians.
  • Works with medical staff on LVAD order set and protocol development within hospital.
  • Acts as the management representative for TJC LVAD certification with responsibility for ensuring the requirements of the management system are implemented and maintained at LMC

Qualifications

Job Requirements:
  • Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or to be currently enrolled in a BSN program
  • Five (5) years relevant experience of which three (3) years must have been in critical care unit. Relevant education and/or experience may be substituted in accordance to policy
  • Remains current on LVAD therapies, competencies and requirements for regulatory certification
  • Valid NM Nursing license or NM compact license (within 90 days of hire) , BLS, and ACLS
  • Ability to show understanding of the care of the critically ill patient in disease processes, treatment, bedside nurse responsibilities, and care pathways.
  • Understanding of mechanical circulatory support devices.
  • Ability to evaluate and facilitate support for social needs of patient.
  • Is capable of high level, autonomous decision making at the highest level within scope of practice.
