How You'll Perform the Role


LIST OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES: Job Title: Machinist
  • Required experience with lathe machines
  • Make plate cylinders, ensuring they fit appropriately down to each detail.
  • Make gears, figuring and ensuring correct dimensions, using gear shaper.
  • Repair machine breakdowns as needed.
  • Build-up, grind, and re-weld shafts.
  • Weld various items made of steel, cast iron, aluminum, and stainless steel; braze or weld brass.
  • Handle sheet metal work, such as making guards and ink pans.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.
  • Handle dismantling and rebuilding work.
  • Grind rubber rolls.
  • Make parts needed, ensuring that specifications are correct.
  • Cut shafts.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Assist other Machinists.
  • Keep equipment clean and work area clean.
  • Meet/achieve production goals set forth by management.
  • Perform job safely and follow set task procedures.
  • Reliability, precision, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to use measuring equipment for quality control checks
  • Flexible approach to work hours and willingness to work shifts.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.

WORK EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:
  • Must be able to read, write, perform basic math and understand dimensions.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • 1 - 3 Years of Experience in an industrial maintenance type setting.

TECHNICAL SKILLS NEEDED:

Will need solid understanding of company machinery in order to handle job duties. Will need ability to set up and run lathes and milling machines (Bridgeport) safely. Must have all skills needed for Machinist, plus ability to read and interpret blueprints, make cylinders, and ink pans, chaise threads, make complete parts, and determine correct specifications.

WHAT MACHINES OR TOOLS ARE USED:

Micrometers, indicators, T-gauge, variety of hand wrenches, and hand tools, lathes, milling machines, drills, and welders. Gear hobbing machine, cut off saws, torches, etc..

PERCENTAGE OF TIME WORKING AROUND MACHINERY: 100%

WHAT WORKING CONDITIONS WILL THIS POSITION ENCOUNTER:

Will be exposed to dirt, dust, noise, heat, flame, cleaning solvents and fumes due to factory setting. Will also be exposed to oil and grease. Will need to use gloves, and vest while welding. Must wear eye protection at all times in the Machine Shop area. Do not wear gloves when working on lathe (torno), mill, or drill press.

MAJOR JOB HAZARDS

Lifting, bending, burns, cuts, flying metal particles, flying sparks.

Protective Gloves - when cleaning machines with cleaning solutions or handling hot, sharp objects.



What We Need From You

  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background and drug screen.
  • Work overtime as required.
  • Ability perform the essential functions of the job with or without accommodation.
  • High School Graduate or GED required
  • Technical Degree preferred, but willing to count years of experience
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a maintenance/production environment
  • Electrical training/experience with 480 3 phases/machine controls - preferred
  • Experience with VFD Drives and PLCs a plus
  • Background with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedures required.
  • Previous work experience in mechanical, electrical and/or experience in blown film industries strongly preferred.
  • Experience operating forklift equipment
  • Familiar with all OSHA and GMP standards & requirements
  • Computer Skills

Shift: 3pm - 11pm
