Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Mail Services Lead performs a variety of routine activities related to receiving, distributing and delivering mail, packages and general supplies. Has a thorough knowledge of the college and district to aid in delivery of unclassified mail. Performs receiving clerk and warehouse clerk functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Reads, classifies and determines the designation of general and interoffice mail
  • Classifies, wraps and affixes postage to parcels
  • Ensures and tracks appropriate mail meter charges
  • Accepts and tracks register, certified mail as well as UPS and other package delivery
  • Uses advanced equipment - forklift for bulk supplies, postage machine
  • May deliver mail between campuses, act as courier
  • May oversee and train mailroom workers
  • May set up or break down tables/Chairs in rooms as assigned
  • Oversee the routine maintenance of courier vans
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned


  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
    • Strong attention to detail
    • On-the-job training for mail handling, equipment and organization provided
    • Advanced equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, and good interpersonal skills required
    • Ability to follow safety precautions with heavy lifting and driving
    • Ability to document expenses

    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity. Ability to lift at least 50 pounds

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
    • Equipment used includes, equipment usual and incidental to the pickup and delivery of mail, including mail machine and associated documents, carts, telephone and PC Workstation
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed inside and outdoors, with exposure to dust, dirt, etc.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Must have valid Texas driver's license and be eligible for insurance coverage

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Associate degree or higher

    Salary

    Hiring salary range is $33,540 - $38,571.

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
