Introduction

The Division of Enterprise Technology's Mainframe team is looking for an entry level mainframe systems programmers to join their team! This is a great opportunity to join the Department of Administration and gain excellent on-the-job training.

This position will have the option of working remotely upon agreement of the supervisor but may be asked to come into the office periodically. This schedule may change based on operational needs and organizational requirements.

Position Summary

Under the very close supervision of the Section Chief/Unit Supervisor and the guidance of Technical Leads, this position functions as an entry level mainframe system programmer for the State of Wisconsin's enterprise technology environment. The enterprise mainframe infrastructure includes mainframe hardware, operating systems, storage management, system management software, data backup, system software, database management software, applications, and application development infrastructure.

This position will assist in product support, provide routine customer service task support for mainframe services. The position also will participate in some projects from genesis through implementation and completion. The incumbent will frequently work on projects and tasks that require strong customer service skills, good communication skills and the ability to work within a team approach. The ability to learn to function with an enterprise prospective is critical.

Salary Information

Starting hourly rate for the IS Professional In-Training (A) will be between $24.42 - $38.46 depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits . This classification is assigned to pay schedule/range 07-35. The required probationary period will be for the length of time the incumbent is in IS Professional In-Training (A) and (B) classifications but not less than 12 months.

Job Details

Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct fingerprinting and/or background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form upon hire.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have education, training, or experience in the following:
  • Infrastructure mainframe concepts such as testing, installation, customization, troubleshooting, or support.
  • Time Sharing Option (TSO) such as accessing the z/OS mainframe, logging in, and navigating within the mainframe.
  • Job Control Language (JCL) and JCL utilities such as data copy utilities, sorting utilities, or similar.
  • Mainframe z/OS Operations and/or mainframe database data analysis experience
