Duties

  • You will serve as a Maintenance Control Technician for the operation and maintenance of marine plant, equipment, and as the Dredge Support Assistant for the hopper Dredge McFARLAND.
  • Administers ongoing maintenance, control and administration of a comprehensive preventive maintenance control program and automated data system, Facilities and Equipment Maintenance System (FEM).
  • Organizes and compiles all pertinent information, assures accuracy, and enters data and updates for each piece of equipment into the maintenance system.
  • Utilizes the control system to issue and schedule routine and cyclic maintenance, repair and replacement of all equipment, machinery, etc.
  • Incumbent can be used onboard the Dredge McFarland vessel, either underway, dockside or travel to the shipyard to meet the needs of the mission. Incumbent will utilize the Fort Mifflin Office when not aboard the vessel.
  • As equipment is updated/replaced, enters data for new equipment: Asset descriptions/details, Purchase Information (vendor, warranty info, cost, etc.), PM schedule, itemized listing of parts and description/identification, etc.
  • Serves as primary timekeeper for the Dredge McFarland. This duty includes gathering work data from the ship leaders and office employees, analyzing the information and submitting through the automated program for payment.
  • Must maintain an IMPACT Card from the Government Credit Card Program for the purpose of procurement of provisions and other supplies for the Dredge McFarland.
  • Coordinates with ship officers to develop needs and initiate necessary supply action to acquire supplies and follows up to ensure supply requisitions are expedited efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates the medical surveillance program to ensure compliance with the new Safety requirements.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess or be willing and able to obtain/maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time for business-related purposes.
  • Incumbent can be used onboard the vessel, either underway, dockside or travel to the shipyard to meet the needs of the mission. Incumbent will utilize the Fort Mifflin Office when not aboard the vessel.
  • May be subject to a one year probationary period

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience for the GS-09 level: One year of specialized experience which includes experience utilizing an automated system for maintenance work, experience performing clerical or administrative duties, and/or experience communicating with vendors or contractors. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at next lower grade position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
