What You Will Do
As a Maintenance Mechanic I in the Bureau of Utilities, you will assist in the operation and maintenance of wastewater collection systems within the County. Working under the direction of a supervisor, you will perform equipment repairs, maintenance, and replacement. The work you do will support safe and efficient operations in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.

As a Maintenance Mechanic I in the Bureau of Utilities, you will assist in the operation and maintenance of wastewater collection systems within the County. Working under the direction of a supervisor, you will perform equipment repairs, maintenance, and replacement. The work you do will support safe and efficient operations in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Essential Duties
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and components associated with wastewater collection systems and facilities. Install new and replacement equipment and components.
- Coordinate major equipment repair with vendors and contractors. Assist with work as required.
- Assist in the operation of wastewater collection systems, facilities, and specialized equipment as required.
- Maintain vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Collect samples, compile data, and complete routine paperwork including logs and reports.
- Maintain parts and hardware inventory.
- Follow all established safety rules and regulations. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
- Ensure all work is complete and timely to support department goals. Evaluate feedback and procedures to improve efficiency.
- Invite collaboration and seek learning opportunities. Proactively assist peers to create a supportive work environment.

- High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
- Three or more years of related experience
- A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.
- Valid driver's license
- Temporary Class 2 Wastewater Collection license (Maryland) (or must obtain within 30 days of employment)
- Maryland Operator Class 2 Wastewater Collection System license (or must obtain within three years of employment)
- Department of Transportation (DOT) physical card
- State of Maryland Flagging Certification (or must obtain within three months of employment)
- Class A commercial driver's license (CDL)
- May be identified as Essential Personnel during emergency situations.
- Will be required to work outside of standard hours.
- Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
- Daily exposure to potentially adverse environmental conditions.
- Work includes daily physical activity: lifting and carrying over 50lbs, climbing ladders, and related activities.
