Job Title - Maintenance Technician

Job Goals:
- To provide excellent preventive maintenance services in the care and operation of school system facilities, structures and equipment.
- To assist in maintaining school system facilities to provide supportive work and learning environment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Possess and maintain valid driver's license.
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors year-round in noisy, dirty, extreme temperatures, and inclement weather.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions to be observed.
- Ability to perform tasks while elevated above ground; to climb and work from scaffolding, ladders and heights; and to work in locations involving confined spaces.
- Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and follow plans, directions, and technical manuals.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to make estimates of time and material needed for efficient project completion.
- Ability to effectively perform simultaneous projects and initiatives while meeting multiple deadlines.
- High level of personal initiative and ability to work without close supervision.
- Ability to climb and work from scaffolding, ladders, and heights.
- Ability to engage in prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning and reaching.
- Strength and agility to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability exert up to 75 pounds of force.
- Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, shift work or holidays if necessary.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
- Such alternative qualifications to those listed as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
- Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and facilities as instructed.
- Maintains accurate inventories of supplies and equipment assigned to service truck.
- Requisitions supplies and equipment needed to carry out assignments and perform duties.
- Keeps service trucks, assigned system vehicles, and equipment clean and serviced according to schedules and procedures of the school system Transportation Department.
- Completes work order assignments without close supervision, efficiently and neatly; completes all projects in compliance with trade standards.
- Prioritizes tasks and uses time wisely.
- Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner.
- Follows established guidelines for dealing with emergency repair problems with efficiency.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
- Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.
- Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.
- Engages in professional growth, ongoing training, and demonstrates professional ethics.
- Engages in required orientations, trainings, safety instruction, and meetings as required for effective job performance and/or advancement.
- Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.

- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
