The University of Virginia, Facilities Management, is seeking a Maintenance Zone Manager in their Health Systems Physical Plant Organization. Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic, and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds, in addition to managing capital construction and renovation for University owned and leased properties.

Maintenance Zone Managers exemplify the University's patient care and educational missions, strategic aims, and programs by ensuring consistency and quality in repair, maintenance, and overall customer support. They must possess extensive knowledge and experience in both Operations and Maintenance and have the business acumen to assist with strategic planning and process improvement. They monitor preventative maintenance programs and adjust them to extend the equipment and systems life with a focus on reinvestment and deferred maintenance program development, to include oversight of regulatory documentation. Managers must possess proven ability to lead and manage as they are responsible for the readiness and performance of all personnel assigned to their zone. Most importantly, HSPP Zone Managers are the primary FM representatives to UVA Health departments in their zone, instilling confidence in the competence and reliability of FM services.

Responsibilities:
  • Engage with zone customers through professional written and verbal communications.
  • Manage installations, preventative maintenance, and repairs on buildings, mechanical equipment, and utility systems.
  • Ensure that supervisors are overseeing the efficiency and quality of the work done by the workers in their respective trades.
  • Monitor and manage financial performance relative to zone budgets and fixed-price agreements.
  • Develop, lead, and assess small teams with a motivational approach.
  • Articulate mission, vision, and goals of teams. Plan and organize multiple priorities within projects.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret information in collaboration with university leaders to help improve processes.
  • Foster a safe work environment by instructing and monitoring compliance of OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure regulatory requirements are completed on time and accurately documented
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Required Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: Seven years of experience with at least five years supervisory or leadership experience.

Licensure: May possess certification or license in one or more trades.

For this position, the selected candidate will need to complete the required background checks, including a health screen prior to their start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business Administration

Experience: Significant experience in facilities services, construction, or building design/engineering/management; especially in a regulated health care, research/vivarium (including BSL3), or medical research environment. Demonstrated experience engaging others in improving workplace culture through the lenses of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Licensure: Certification or license in one or more building trades. Building professional association certification (APPA, BOMA, IFMA, CHFM, etc.).

Civic/Social Engagement: Current or past positions of leadership outside of work.

Selected candidates will be required to complete all required background checks and health screens prior to the first day of employment

Compensation:

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $105,000 - $115,000 ; actual starting salary will be commensurate with experience. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits . Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:

This is primarily an office position. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs, as well as navigating work sites and mechanical spaces.
