Job Summary

Manages the Sterile Processing Activities which includes case cart preparation sterilization, reprocessing, packaging, and delivery of surgical and patient care instrumentation and equipment used in the operating rooms in the Central Region. Maintains direct supervision of shift supervisors and coordinators. Additionally, manages the sterilization, production and delivery of instruments to other departments, such as Ambulatory Surgery, the Cardiac Catherization Lab, Angiography, clinics, Emergency Departments and general and acute Nursing Units. Maintains quality control standards, ensuring that established aseptic, sterile and infection control techniques and procedures are followed. The relationship with other DMC regions is collaborative in the standardization of practices, policies, procedures and techniques for the entire Central Sterile Processing function across the system; recommends changes as appropriate. Monitors the quality and quantity of work flow of Materials Management Coordinators and union Instrument and Central Supply Associates to ensure work is completed. Initiates or recommends personnel actions such as hires, fires, disciplines, etc., and completes performance appraisals. Acts as department liaison to hospital committees such as Infection Control and the like. Assists in developing daily, monthly and/or yearly goals and measures for Central Sterile Processing across the system. As requested assists in assessment of goal attainment. Assists in developing and monitoring budget for Central Sterile Processing. Works with OR directors and OR service coordinators to root cause issues and resolve issues as deemed appropriate by the customer and the department. Monitors activities for and ensures compliance with laws, government regulations, JCAHO requirements and DMC policies. As directed, implements external and internal audit recommendations. Ensures hospital departments achieve objectives for diversity of their suppliers.

Qualifications:

1. Associates degree in Business and/or Nursing or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. Three to five years progressively more responsible experience processing specialized surgical and patient care instrumentation and equipment, according to established standards.

3. Certification through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or the International Associate of Healthcare, Central Services and Materials (IAHCSMM) within 6 months of hire date.
