This role sits in the global Corporate Affairs & Communications organization and provides corporate communications and public affairs counsel and service to multiple executives in the organization. Reporting to the VP, Corporate Communications, the Manager, Corporate Communications will provide support for our corporate-wide media relations and CEO communications strategy, including earnings-related financial communications, as well as policy and issues management activities. This position requires strong understanding of the media and corporate communications landscape, excellent writing and project management skills with a high degree of focus on details, strategic enterprise thinking, industry knowledge, agility and experience with crisis and issue management, and an ability to forge strong working relationships across teams.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Quickly develop a deep understanding of American Express, its business and customers to create opportunities to tell the American Express story.
  • Support a proactive media relations strategy that increases visibility and enhances the company reputation.
  • Help manage issues and crisis communications by demonstrating good judgment, agility and efficiency in navigating fast-pace and high-pressure situations, and sound implementation of decision-making frameworks.
  • Support CEO financial communications and GCO-related communications, as well as working with the broader CA&C team on developing a holistic near- and long-term strategy for executive positioning across the Executive Committee.
  • Support preparations for executive engagements, including media trainings, internal briefings, and the creation of content across media relations, employee communications, talking points, speeches, and presentations.
  • Help manage incoming media requests and advise business leadership on strategy and tactics.
  • Support VP of Corporate Communications in her capacity as a spokesperson for the company, including helping foster relationships with media and preparing for engagements.
  • Effectively and quickly create, review and edit communications content (press releases, company statements, talking points, FAQs, etc.) and ensure alignment with American Express corporate narrative.
  • Monitor, measure and report on media coverage of American Express.
  • Partner effectively with communications colleagues and strategic business partners across the company to help coordinate communications activities, as appropriate.
  • Serving as a relationship manager with public relations agencies and other external partners.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 6+ years communications/public relations experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle all types of media and corporate communications needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills is crucial for this role.
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to thrive while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create connections across functions and levels.
  • Strong understanding and experience in media relations and day-to-day media management.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills, with proven track record of exercising sound judgment and clear decision-making under tight deadlines.
  • Experience developing and implementing creative public relations and social media programs.
  • Strong analytical, strategic, and creative skills.
  • Experience working with public relations agency and vendor resources.


Qualifications

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
