Minimum qualifications:

  • Knowledge of current and emerging public policy trends relating to online content platforms, child safety and privacy, and technology.
  • Strong communicator, humble ambassador, ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with great judgment and steadfast collegiality.


About the job

As a member of Google's Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You'll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you'll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. You're passionate about the opportunity to shape the future of how we use and build technology for everyone.

As a member of the Government Affairs and Public Policy team at YouTube, you will be an ambassador for YouTube's issues and interests with federal officials in DC. You will develop a thorough understanding of YouTube's products, policies, and operations and share policy knowledge with stakeholders within YouTube, to include Trust and Safety, Legal, PR, and Marketing. You will work in a cross-functional way to develop and implement public policy strategies. You will report to the Americas Policy Director at YouTube, and will work closely with the YouTube and Google Government Affairs and Public Policy team in Washington DC.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company's engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others' views and opinions, and distill and share the company's perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $182,000-$248,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary point of contact for some federal officials across the political spectrum on relevant public policy issues facing YouTube, explain how YouTube works to interested policymakers.
  • Discern impact of legislation to YouTube's business, its users, and its creators and externalize this analysis to improve outcomes.
  • Work with policy colleagues in a highly-matrixed organization representing a broad range of Google products on the development and execution of an aligned policy strategy across the United States .
  • Implement YouTube campaigns and activities on issues such as the benefits of personalization, YouTube's contributions to the creator economy, the platform's parental tools and controls, and the platform's responsible approach to copyright issues to inform policymakers .
