Job Summary

The Manager, Fitness Center will assist with the daily operations of the Fitness Center. Assist members with fitness assessments, goals, and individual programs, and works in the Weight Room to ensure safety standards, and teaches member classes. Provides management and leadership in the Fitness Center during shift.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist with clerical duties, inventories, training of new employees, and maintain equipment for safety and cleanliness, making repairs if appropriate.

Teach member classes and answers fitness-related questions from members and students.

Help maintain data and statistics on Fitness Center members and physical education classes and students.

Assist members in their fitness assessment, goals, and individual programs.

Work the front desk (sells memberships, answers phone, answers student inquires, hands out towels, etc.)

Work in the Weight Room to ensure the safety of the members.

Assist with instructor needs for equipment, supplies, etc.

Open and/or close the Fitness Center and oversee attendants and Fitness Center staff.

Offer institutional support with events such as Walk America, HCCS Clean-Up Day, etc.

Conduct orientation for new members in the safe and proper use of all weight equipment in the Weight Room.

Offer fitness advice and help with individual fitness students.

Work to improve knowledge, skills, and abilities in the fitness industry through continuing education and certifications.

May work flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Stay abreast, improve knowledge, skills, and abilities in the fitness industry through continuing education and certifications.

Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience
  • Associate's degree required
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in fitness-related field preferred
  • 1 year work experience in a fitness center environment, assessing and recommending exercise programs required
  • 2 years preferred

Licensing & Certification
  • Valid Texas Driver License
  • CPR and First-Aid Certification required
  • National certification through ACSM, NSCA, ACE or AFFA preferred

Working Conditions

General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
