The Manager, Investment Accounting manages the research, review, and analysis of investment data/reports to ensure financial results and analytics are accurate, manages the reporting functions of investments, including analyses of investment data, internal management reporting and review of investment footnotes for external reporting, and works on special projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and oversees processes related to net investment income, realized gains and losses, and investment yield data, driving efficiencies where possible and ensuring compliance with SOX controls as well as GAAP guidelines. Includes preparation of month-end, quarter-end and annual reports for assigned asset and Investment Accounting areas.
  • Performs detailed review and explanation of analysis over net investment income, realized gains and losses, and investment yield data for all invested assets (e.g., bonds, equities, mortgage loans, derivatives, alternative assets), including overseeing analysis and reporting of related impairments and allowances.
  • Navigates through substantial quantities of data/reports and/or statements to detect errors and gather financial information for reporting and/or makes recommendations. Gathers information to accurately understand and summarize issues, evaluates risk and challenges, works collaboratively to propose recommendations and works to implement approved changes.
  • Performs supervisory duties, including, but not limited to training and coaching analysts on the team. Fosters a positive and engaged work environment. Mentors associates and gives guidance on associate development.
  • Provides support to Director and VP, including special projects and supervision of Investment Accounting Analysts. Works with Director of Investment Accounting and others within department to develop areas of focus for accounting, process, or reporting improvements, including data related projects.
  • Coordinates and summarizes investment information for internal and external examiners. Works with other functional areas to achieve efficient and effective investment reporting practices and procedures and responds to requests from other functional areas on various inquiries.


Requirements

Education and Experience

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent related work experience
  • 6+ years accounting or finance experience
  • 1-2 years supervisory experience

Required:
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite

Advanced ability to set goals and handle multiple tasks, clients, and projects simultaneously; Ability to appropriately balance priorities, deadlines, and deliverables

  • People management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and develop associates; including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility
  • Ability to be flexible when needed, take initiative, and demonstrate accountability
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills demonstrating ability to share impart knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting/finance theory and application and financial reporting
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and participate in department/team projects
  • Ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines

The general pay range for this position is $84,860-$128,110 per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles, and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
