JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for developing, implementing, and executing Newbuild basic design activities along with program management processes within the NCL Newbuild department. Establish department vessel design databases, and system design frameworks for informed decision making on future basic design requirements. Lead and support a team of technical experts and project managers involved in the basic design phase of cruise ships. Oversee and support project management integrations within the Newbuild portfolio, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and existing processes.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead and manage newbuild naval architecture projects, ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and budgets. Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk management plans for newbuilds.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional internal & external teams, Hotel operations, Marine & Technical operations, procurement, engineering, design consultants and construction teams.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions as necessary. Prepare and present regular project status reports to stakeholders, including senior management and clients.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of PMO processes and tools.
  • Support Management in the development, and implementation of departmental program and project management processes and standards in alignment with technical development functions and best practices.
  • Apply naval architecture principles to new and existing designs. Oversee the technical aspects of vessel construction and modification and the development of basic design plans, including hull forms, general arrangements, and structural layouts.
  • Conduct technical reviews and provide guidance on design, construction, and maintenance of vessels. Advise on compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and classification society rules.
  • Perform technical analysis and problem-solving related to hull design, stability, propulsion, and other key aspects of naval architecture.
  • Engage with department leads to understand and document project requirements.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Manage project communications and ensure stakeholders are kept informed of project progress and issues.
  • Support in the development of vessel design risk management frameworks & identify, assess, and manage project risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Develop and maintain project timelines/schedules, utilizing CPM methodologies to identify critical paths and establish key milestones for progress tracking.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

DEGREE TYPE: Bachelor's Degree

FIELD(S) OF STUDY: Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering. A master's degree is preferred. A combination of relevant background and experience. PMP certification is desirable.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in naval architecture and project management, preferably focused on passenger, commercial, or military vessels design/refurbishment.
  • At least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role within a shipyard or design office.

COMPETENCIES/SKILLS:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Competence in computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-mail, Power BI, AutoCAD, Rhino 3D).
  • Must possess a high degree of organizational skills, flexibility, confidentiality. Be a collaborator, capable of performing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong background and experience working in a PMO environment.
  • Excellent understanding of naval architecture principles, design processes, and construction methodologies.
  • Proven record of successfully managing complex projects from initiation to completion.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet).

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering. (A master's degree is preferred)
  • PMI, PMP certification preferable.
