Key Responsibilities:

The Manager will be responsible for strategic communications produced by Flight Operations which will include integrating the department's emphasis on safety, planning and execution capability. This individual reports to the Sr. Manager of Flight Ops Communications and is responsible for managing a team to support the production of internal messaging to pilots and M&A, from internal and company-wide sources to various types of media (Flying Together, technical publications, CCS messages, town halls, email distributions, EIDS, Flight Ops Updates & Quarterly Connection publications, newsletters and social media guidance).

  • Manage a team responsible for the creation and implementation of operational communications
  • Develop accurate, timely and engaging communications for Flight Operations which include Flight Ops Updates, Pilot Bulletins, Ops Alerts and CCS messages, EIDS screens and town halls while managing editorial and production priorities and objectives
  • Manage effectiveness of Flight Operations communications with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with Sr. Manager of Flight Ops Communications, executive and officer leadership and subject matter experts in Flight Ops, and the broader Air Ops organization when necessary, to develop communication strategies and provide communications counsel/support
  • Liaison to Corporate Communications and other United organizations for Flight Operations communications
  • Responsible for running programs and data analytics designed to measure and improve employee engagement such as employee recognition programs and other activities aimed at creating a safety focused, high performing, positive workplace environment
  • Identify and deploy creative and effective solutions to engage employees through actions that demonstrate technical accuracy, attention to detail, and urgency when necessary

What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant work experience in Degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Aviation, or similar
  • 4+ years corporate communication experience
  • 4+ years aviation / operations experience
  • Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Corporate writing
  • Proficient in AP writing
  • Operational knowledge
  • Presentation skills (preparation and presenting)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well with all levels of staff, from vice presidents to pilots
  • Strong ability to learn industry jargon and master sophisticated technical concepts
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, including effective time management, adherence to deadlines and the ability to prioritize effectively without compromising accuracy
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

  • Masters degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field
  • Experience working on behalf of or within a major international airline
  • Crisis communications skills and experience
  • Professional social media account management experience
  • Proficiency in communications analytics tools and software
  • Professional graphic design and/or multimedia skills
