The College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is seeking a Manager, Research Development and Strategic Support to join the College's research administration team. The College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is the largest of UVA's ten schools and the research administration team provides comprehensive research support throughout the grant life cycle to all academic departments within the College.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with senior research staff to develop and implement guidance documents to support strategic research development across A&S departments
  • Work with PIs to facilitate development of complex funding opportunities and partnerships
  • Provide strategic advice to PIs on internal and external funding opportunities, program design, and proposal submission
  • Create proposal development trainings for new and current faculty
  • Facilitate strategic planning meetings with faculty on research initiatives that align with school and university strategic priorities
  • Assess the appropriateness and potential for success for new research opportunities and provide information and guidance on these opportunities to senior leadership and faculty
  • Identify and support the implementation of research funding opportunities and external/external collaboration opportunities with UVA schools, government agencies, universities, institutions, and private industry
  • Collaborate with internal UVA research offices on strategic research initiatives and activities
  • Develop proposal content for complex, multi-school or multi-disciplinary proposals
  • Development and implement a pre-review process for complex proposals
  • Develop and maintain a school library of core documents (biosketch templates, other support, facilities, equipment, and other resources statements)
  • Collaborate with dean's office staff on internal seed grant processes (writing solicitations, managing review and award process)
  • Map out research support ecosystem including intellectual and physical research infrastructure across UVA, and make connections with UVA faculty to those various support elements (library, data support etc).
Minimum Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: At least seven years of grant and contract experience, typically in an academic environment. Four additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with granting organizations
  • Supporting the development and submission of grant proposals
This position is located in Charlottesville, VA. This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment, dependent upon department needs and incumbent's performance.

The anticipated start date is September 2024. Anticipated Hiring Range: $85,000 - $100,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is an Exempt level, benefited position.
