Position Summary:

Manages private fleet over the road operations, dispatch operations and fleet maintenance and salvage areas to meet corporate objectives to maximize service to our stores, distribution centers, and ultimately our customers. Maintains constant awareness of budgets while maintaining a safe and productive fleet. Establishes best practices and trains associates to perform at the highest level. Develops and monitors programs to properly manage service and utilization of related company assets. Provides corporate management with knowledge and input to make sound business decisions in fleet related areas. Maintains constant awareness of DOT regulations and maintenance standards. Oversees the training of associates to meet the highest level of performance. Maintains technical awareness of systems to provide proper expertise in fleet operation areas. Supervises the Transportation Supervisor, Dispatch Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor and Salvage personnel. Manages projects and leads department towards cost optimization\reduction.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

• Interacts with Distribution Center Managers, Supervisors, and company personnel to provide transportation service to meet our corporate goals, solve issues, and create a team concept in daily activities. Has a working knowledge of the seasonality of our volume

• Interacts with store operations including District Managers, Store Operation Directors, and Vice President of Operations to insure the highest service levels to our stores and solve problems and issues. Attends and participates in store manager and distribution

• Interacts with vendors to secure the most cost-effective equipment, parts and supplies to meet our needs. Has the ability to evaluate vendors performance and the performance of their products.

• Participates in meetings, seminars, and training to provide associates with the leading-edge skills in transportation.

• Manages direct report performance and provides insight in hiring decisions and disciplinary actions as needed.

• Seeks advice from human resources concerning disciplinary issues and associate performance appraisals.

• Works with outside vendors to develop/increase backhauls.

• Manages daily supervision of drivers.

• Responsible for fleet maintenance facility operations to perform repairs in a professional, timely manner while staying within our budget.

• Responsible for utilization of equipment with recommendations to management for improvement.

• Manages and oversees Transportation Supervisor to meet on time deliveries, evaluates routing, and trip efficiency to provide the most economical delivery routes.

• Manages the legal operation of our fleet.

• Manages on board computer, routing and driver pay programs.

• Responsible for the cleanliness of the fleet to including exteriors and interiors.

• Manages dispatch staff to insure timely salvage pick up from stores.

• Manages development of staff for advancement in the organization and promotes teamwork within department.

• Manages staffing levels to meet both high and low demand periods.

• Manages inventory of transportation fleet and maintenance facility.

• Responsible for insuring on time delivery to stores.

• Manages backhaul program to insure backhauls are received on time to better service our stores.

• Aggressively pursue waste and inefficiencies in their operation.

• Target potential improvements and work with teams to improve working environment and product throughput.

• Act as "change agent" to drive "lean" education and utilization.

• Play a key role in the development of a Continuous Improvement mindset in our operations in order to better service our costumer and provide and support training for associates to support continuous improvement ideas.

• Accountable for "lean" process sustainability within assigned operations.

Basic Qualifications:

• High School Education or equivalent

• Certified on a powered industrial equipment where applicable

• Seasoned knowledge of distribution shipping practices

Preferred Qualification:

• Bachelor's Degree in Business

• Working knowledge of DOT and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations along with Transportation Logistics.

• Demonstrates good judgment solving problems and making decisions.
