Summary:

Maintain and improve existing IT systems in various maintenance department in Rail Operations. Develop and manage projects for all assigned systems. Manage project budgets and maintenance contracts for all applications. Collaborates with Rail Operations for priorities, innovations, and scope.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Develops and monitors project plans for all assigned systems and reports status to Director, Rail IT.
  • Tracks project grants and procedures special reporting to monitor progress.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for assigned rail applications.
  • Manages and coordinates activities of assigned personnel and provide technical assistance as needed.Coordinates project tasks between IT managers, Technical Services, Computer Operations, and other NJ Transit departments.
  • Participates and serves on various committees that maintain IT quality assurance standards, implements Office Technology platform, and develops disaster recovery plans to maintain the IT infrastructure.
  • Identifies and procures hardware/software, consultant services, and applications development tools to implement new systems, expand existing systems, and provide for a highly productive applications development environment.
  • Performs feasibility studies for new system requests as well as enhancements to existing systems.
  • Responsible for the performance assessment, employment, and termination of assigned employees.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
  • BachelorsDegree in Computer Systems, Management Information Systems or relevant field of study.
  • Seven (7) or more years of progressive supervisory experience in implementing large scale information technology projects
  • One year or closely related experience can be substituted for each year of education required.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of rail operations
  • Knowledge of rail operations transportation software applications and steps required to maintain and support systems related to these rail functions.
  • Experience managing enterprise-wide applications in multi-platform application environments
  • Experience with transportation systems software applications for bus/fleet/rail maintenance, asset management, rail crew management, train dispatching (and more) preferred with strong analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on technical experience with Web Development (C# and VB.net), Crystal Reporting, Team Foundation Server, Cloud Architecture (AWS, Azure), and Database preferred.

  • Rail Principle Software Specialist
  • Senior Transportation Application Analyst/Programmer
  • Lead Transportation Analyst, Rail IT

Working Environment:
  • Office environment 85% of time. 15% of time travelling to rail sites to deploy software applications to field personnel.
