Position Title : Manufacturing DFX Engineer

Job Purpose :Develops, implements and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies. Interfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products. Estimates manufacturing cost, determines time standards and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform essential duties that include the following; other duties may be assigned.
  • Part of Front End Engineering team which manages the integration of Dfx activities into the hardware product development cycle.
  • As a key member of the Front End Engineering team, the Dfx Engineer will be involved with any number of hardware products under development.
  • The position requires a strong technical aptitude including an excellent understanding of DfX methodologies, high volume electronics manufacturing processes, printed circuit board technology, component selection, test and inspection methodologies, quality assurance and defense and aerospace electronic product development.
  • Performing benchmarking, gap closure analysis, and preliminary technical and economic feasibility studies for the modification or addition of new manufacturing process.
  • Providing engineering leadership for the definition and scoping of capital projects for all aspects of manufacturing, and transitioning of projects to Manufacturing for project implementation and subsequent operation.
  • Developing and validating new processes in concert with the Manufacturing, Test Engineering, and Quality teams, insuring that our products can be dependably and cost effectively manufactured, while simultaneously meeting customer needs.
  • Establishing and documenting process specifications that ensure manufacturing operations will meet product capability and quality expectations.
  • Collaborating with Manufacturing to demonstrate process capability and document control limits/strategies and operator work instructions on all processes and equipment
  • Relentlessly pursuing cost reductions through manufacturing process efficiencies, while maintaining product form, fit, function and quality, to drive profitability
  • Assure the QA system is enforced and that all defective or out of specification processes are made compliant through RCA/CA activities.
  • Establish and apply a global design review process, to ensure robust manufacturing equipment design, validation, and implementation for new and existing processes.
  • Lead in identifying risk, developing complex mitigation strategies, best practices, alternative solutions, resolving issues, etc. in collaboration with cross functional and/or matrix teams.
  • Develop a process standardization strategy, and drive process standardization aligned with corporate strategy
  • Sustaining a detailed understanding of our competitor's manufacturing processes, with an eye towards leveraging best practices, and securing and maintaining a competitive advantage.
  • Provide leadership in the development and execution of a process development strategy, defining priorities, and allocating resources, that drive the company to best in class cost, productivity and quality.


Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Material Science Engineering or other Engineering disciplines required.
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in the design, execution and sustaining of manufacturing processes and technology
  • Knowledge of financial budgeting and acumen to evaluate the ROI of various innovative technologies and make financial and technical based recommendations to the business.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading, developing, and mentoring highly educated, skilled engineers in a global environment.
  • Extensive experience in strategic planning and project management.
  • Demonstrated success in technical and managerial leadership in designing and implementing manufacturing processes that meet cost, productivity, and run rate expectations while satisfying product quality and capability expectations.
  • Proven success in influencing management strategic decisions to invest in innovative technology platforms.
  • Extensive experience in utilizing Six Sigma tools to develop new processes, or to improve existing processes, leading to manufacturing efficiency.
  • 5-10 years' experience in automation, micro technology, wire bonding, and other manufacturing technologies specific to Defense and Aerospace
  • Lean/Six sigma green belt or higher strongly desired
  • Capable of obtaining and maintaining a security clearance
