A successful candidate for this role will have the technical knowledge in high volume manufacturing lines and new technology introduction to design, install, commission and ramp up new high pressure die casting manufacturing lines, melting centers, its peripheral equipment and supporting areas.


Responsibilities
  • Lead manufacturing line design and launch - bid package development, vendor selection, equipment concept design, lead vendor design reviews, oversee fabrication, acceptance testing standards and visits, coordinate required building utilities, equipment installation, commissioning, and handover to operations, including a high level of cross collaboration with teams such as Facilities, Construction, Operations, Maintenance and other Tesla manufacturing groups
  • Design custom fixtures, jigs, tools, structures, etc. as needed, providing detailed build to print models/drawings for fabrication
  • Responsible for implementing and managing continuous process optimization including the addition of advanced and conventional technologies to improve quality, productivity and reduce overall waste
  • Specify and lay-out equipment for high pressure die casting shops, from melt through trim, including major equipment and all ancillary items required to operate the cell
  • Oversee technical and schedule performance of equipment suppliers following Tesla standards
  • Create documentation needed to sustain operation of the equipment (e.g. start up and shut down procedures, operation instructions, KPI's, troubleshooting manuals, maintenance schedules)


Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar, or the equivalent in experience
  • Die casting, foundry background or similar preferred
  • 3+ years of experience designing manufacturing lines, mechanical equipment, fixturing and tooling in 2D and 3D CAD (SolidWorks/Revit/AutoCAD or similar)
  • Experience introducing new high pressure die casting equipment and new processes into a production environment from conceptual design throughout start up preferred
  • Proven project management experience of $1M+ capex projects with cost benefit analysis development
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
