Pay Range: $100,000 - 110,000

POSITION SUMMARY: The primary role of a Structural Project Engineer is to participate in the design and detail engineering efforts to support the construction of aluminum and steel vessels.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • • Design vessel structures which meet requirements set forth in the vessel specification, creating models, drawings, and detailed bills of materials.
  • • Loft and nest all vessel parts for CNC cutting.
  • • Perform all calculations required for structural design.
  • • Support estimators during preliminary stages of project.
  • • Support production personnel during construction phase of project.
  • • Participate in sea trials of completed vessels.
  • • Maintain engineering block library and structural standards documents.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: May be asked to supervise and mentor a team of up to two engineers and designers or provide oversight on engineering subcontractors as they carry out design tasks relevant to your discipline.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: This position maintains a variety of professional relationships and must be able to determine the appropriate level of communication and interaction for various situations and circumstances. The ability to effectively influence decisions through respectful interactions with others both within the organization and outside of the organization is essential in this role.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • • Very strong computer skills and experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, Ship Constructor and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) preferred
  • • Must be detail oriented and able to work with extremely tight specifications.
  • • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • • Able to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents.
  • • Experience must include good working knowledge of design spiral, vessel arrangements, structural, electrical, mechanical and outfit details.
  • • Capable of clear effective communications, creative problem solving, and working well with others of all levels of authority and technical knowledge.
  • • Must be highly organized and have excellent documentation skills.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

§ BA in an engineering discipline or equivalent required. Bachelors in Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering preferred.

§ Five (5) years of marine experience required, experience in vessel design and construction preferred.

§ Experience and familiarity with CFR, Classing Society rules, ABYC, IEEE, and military contracts is preferred.
