Key Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
    Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret-SCI clearance.
  • Some travel may be required.
Physical Effects:
The incumbent may work from ladders, scaffolding and in hard to reach spaces. Duties require the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent may be exposed to bruises, burns, electrical shock, and other injuries in performing repairs and inspections. Ability to lift approximately fifty (50) pounds.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed inside with occasional outside tasks. Inside work is normally in a building which is adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated; however, at times, the building may not have these amenities. Outside exposure to heat and cold can be protected against by the use of proper clothing. Position may require an irregular or flextime tour-of-duty for preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, renovation work and other duties; as assigned.

Major Duties
WG-05
  • Assist a higher-grade maintenance mechanic and/or journeyman worker in one or more of the skilled trade occupations (masonry, carpentry, painting, electrical, basic plumbing, etc.) by performing the simpler and more routine duties of the trade and working with the higher-grade maintenance mechanic and/or journeyman, as instructed.
  • Maintain records and prepares reports, with guidance, concerning materials used, hours worked, and work completed.
WG-07
  • Perform various facilities tasks on a routine, emergency, and one time basis as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Duties may be focused on one trade to facilitate simple and/or minor repairs for the upkeep of buildings, building equipment, structures, building systems and utility systems.
  • Move moderately heavy items of office equipment and furniture; hangs objects on wall such as pictures, bulletin boards, fire extinguishers, and the like.
  • Load and unloads heavy boxes, cartons, and bulky supplies to and from trucks, by hand or with the aid of dollies, handtruck, etc. Stack boxes and cartons as directed.
WG-08
  • Duties will increase to multiple skills in previous listed trades.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repair work to office equipment and small electrical items by locating worn and damages parts, disassembling simple equipment, making minor adjustments or replacing defective parts; and cleaning, lubricating, and reassembling the same
  • Utilize a wide variety of approved trade practices associated with carpentry, painting, masonry, cement, roofing, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, and other trade related assignments/tasks.
  • Assemble fabricated items such as bookshelves, tables, benches, and worktables by fitting, nailing, and/or bolting sections together in accordance with instructions and/or markings.
WG-09
  • Perform a variety of general labor duties, with minimal guidance.
  • Read and interpret building plans, specifications, blueprints, and sketches to complete required installation and repair of minor building needs.
  • Perform seasonal grounds maintenance to ensure roadways, parking lots and sidewalks are accessible to employees, visitors and delivery services.
  • Regulate and changes or repairs and replaces lock combinations.
WG-10
  • Plan work methods and sequences, lay out work to be done, determine material to be used, and select proper tools.
  • Provide guidance to subordinates and management.
  • Independently upkeep the complex's buildings, grounds, and related structures, fixtures and utilities.
  • Maintain and repair electrical fixtures with guidance from the electrical shop.
  • Perform a variety of duties associated with the maintenance and repair of plumbing systems with guidance from the utility system repair-operator shop.

  • Awareness of planning, measuring, and laying out materials using basic shop mathematics.
  • Awareness of office equipment maintenance.
WG-07 SE (in addition to above) is defined as follows:
  • Planned, measured, and laid out materials using basic shop mathematics.
WG-08 SE (in addition to above) is defined as follows:
  • Knowledge of a variety of trade practices associated with carpentry, locksmith, masonry, electrical utilities systems repair, and other related trades.
WG-09 SE (in addition to above) is defined as follows:
  • Demonstrates appropriate skills in ONE of the following trades: carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, heating and air conditioning, and painting.
  • Completed projects from initial layout to final assembly and installation.
WG-10 SE (in addition to above) is defined as follows:
  • Possess a working knowledge of at least TWO of the following: carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, heating and air conditioning, and painting.
  • Independently read, interpret, and apply a variety, of plans, specifications, blueprints, diagrams and instructions to complete a project.
  • Maintained records and prepared reports/work orders.
