Job Duties

To enhance substance use disorder programs and services in correctional centers and Community Corrections Alternative Programs (CCAPs) within the Virginia Department of Corrections that create opportunities for individuals to live healthy, safe and successful lives. Promote public safety by combating the opioid epidemic and fentanyl poisoning through enhanced services for those with a substance use disorder.

To serve as a lead for Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) within the Virginia
Department of Corrections. This role ensures collaboration between medical services and substance use disorder treatment programs, for care coordination. To partner with other state agencies to advance services specific to treatment options and opioid overdose reversal medications. To increase post release continuum of care planning for inmates/probationers engaging in medication assisted treatment. To increase education surrounding medication assisted treatment to staff, inmates and probationers.

Minimum Qualifications

Possesses strong working knowledge of opioid use and addiction, along with knowledge and
experience working with Medication Assisted Treatment with antagonist, agonist, and partial agonist substances. Knowledge regarding criminal justice systems and Probationer and Parolees in the criminal justice system. Must have the skills to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must have experience supervising staff and performing coaching as necessary. Must be able to serve as a liaison between agency personnel, inmates/probationers, and treatment providers. Must have strong presentation skills and experience facilitating training and offering leadership.

Additional Considerations

Working experience in substance use field, specifically with Medication Assisted Treatment provider. Must possess be eligible for substance abuse certification through a national or state certification board. Working experience in the field of criminal justice.
