Description

Assumes responsibility for plant mechanical maintenance on piping and equipment including fabrication, repairs, installation, rigging, blinding, torqueing, testing, and welding (if qualified).

  • Fabricates and installs process and utility piping, structural steel and related equipment per Valero standards and code.
  • Maintains piping systems, heat exchangers, pressure vessels and other plant process equipment, utilizing a combination of boilermaking and pipefitting expertise.
  • Performs blinding of process piping and equipment.
  • Performs rigging of process piping and equipment.
  • Removes, repairs, and installs piping, valves, fittings, gaskets, tubing and equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on strainers, filters, and other process equipment.
  • Works on and demonstrates knowledge of all types of valves - isolation valves, control valves, PSV's, etc. - including preventive maintenance and repair.
  • Executes breakdown, troubleshooting, repair and hydrostatic and/or pneumatic testing of heat exchangers.
  • Repairs process heaters and other fired equipment.
  • Installs and repairs basic structural steel.
  • Trains and becomes certified to operate various types of heavy equipment (forklifts, manlifts, etc.).
  • Uses hand and power tools to complete assigned work tasks.
  • Uses precision measuring and alignment tools to ensure proper alignment.
  • Reads and interprets piping specifications, isometric drawings, instructions, repair manuals, correspondence and memos.
  • Works daily in various computer systems, including work order systems, email, and training programs.
  • Ensures self, personnel, and equipment are working in a safe manner by following procedures and guidelines.
  • Follows Safety & Health Guidelines and procedures to ensure that equipment is working in a safe and reliable manner.
  • This position is hourly nonexempt status which means that you are eligible for overtime pay.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Minimum two years' experience applying boilermaking, pipefitting and/or welding skills in a petrochemical or refinery environment or a degree in a related field required
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings required
  • Ability to work call-outs, and scheduled and unscheduled overtime which includes nights, weekends, holidays, and outages/turnarounds required.
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero St. Charles Refinery, required.
  • Pipe welding skills preferred
  • Rigging skills and experience with powered lifting and/or materials handling equipment preferred
  • NCCER Boilermaking certification preferred
  • NCCER Pipefitting certification preferred
  • NCCER Rigger certification preferred
  • NCCER Welding certification preferred
