Insight Global is looking for a Mechanical Technician to join one of the worlds leading social networking companies. This individual will work within the Reality Labs organization which brings people around the world together through next generation Augmented, Mixed, and Virtual Reality. The main function of a mechanical assembly technician is to build, test, and repair devices under the direction of engineering staff. A mechanical technician may also be asked to design test fixtures, conduct experiments, and set up / maintain lab equipment. This role revolves around prototyping lab. The individual will be building custom hardware prototype assembly in low volume consisting of mechanical, electrical and opto parts. The role includes capturing assembly instructions, functional and reliability testing, troubleshooting, and operational support. The ideal candidate will be joining a multidisciplinary team, consisting of mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software engineers, and research scientists. The team is responsible for developing quick turnaround prototypes to establish platforms to develop prototypes for our product teams and researchers! The individual will be working on new sensors, new features, and new data to collect to power some of the experiences that will be used by the consumers. The individual will be using new technology contributing to technological enhancements.

Role Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
Work with product development and sustaining engineering teams to assemble, test, and validate new product designs
Assemble engineering prototype devices in low/medium quantity. Devices include complex mechanical, electrical, and optical assemblies
Document and maintain prototype parts inventory
Perform prototype device sustaining activities, including repairs, maintenance, updates, and workflow management
Design, fabricate, and assemble fixtures and other tooling for experiments and prototype assembly/test
Perform laboratory experiments and document results
Organize and maintain an engineering lab to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient workspace
Perform DFM/DFA reviews and documentation of feedback

Pay rate: $35/hr

Required Skills & Experience

Relevant vocational training or 2+ years of experience working in an equivalent role
Hands-on mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly experience; Optical and ESD sensitive component assembly and handling experience preferred
Experience with hand tools (drivers, drills, files, taps) and assembling of devices
Experience with high accuracy measuring devices (calipers, micrometer, dial indicator, laser, etc.)
Basic electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills
Experience with operating reliability test equipment (such as thermal chambers) and working with reliability engineers for planning, execution, and data collection
Experience working in labs, working on consumer electronics
Ability to handle PCB flexes, sensitive equipment (such as cameras and microphones)

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Read 2D engineering drawings; knowledge of 3D geometry and 2D drafting experience preferred (e.g. NX)
Proficient with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
