A leading global provider of equipment, systems, digital solutions and value-added services for freight and transit rail is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Electric Bus Solutions division. As an experienced engineer with good working knowledge of both mechanical engineering and electrical power principles with focus on design and development of passenger door systems.

Day to Day:
- -Designs passenger door system operating equipment including mechanical actuation systems, controls and related equipment.
- -Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs, which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
- -Applies mechanical /electro-mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; and construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and related components.
- -Determines feasibility of designing new equipment considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.
- -Provides technical information materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planning.
- -Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype equipment and systems.
- -Confers with Operations and Testing personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develops required design solutions.
- -Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.
- -Works closely with Manufacturing Engineering to coordinate manufacturing and building of prototype product or system.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelor of Science degree (B. S.) in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electro-mechanical Engineering

7 years' experience working in Product Development (or 5 years in a related industry)

Use of 3-D modeling software (Creo, SolidWorks or equivalent) to develop new parts and assemblies

Ability to gather requirements, create designs/models, and works closely with Test Engineering to develop test plans

Understanding and ability to project costs associated with manufacturing

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Pneumatics or actuator design experience

Previous automatic door systems experience

Understanding of extruded aluminum and its properties
