Mechanical Engineer
Role Description
This role will be responsible for supporting product development activities from post tooling kick off stage for steering wheel and center stack switch assemblies. The candidate will work with suppliers to adjust parts for button feel, coordinate injection mold tool grain/texture activities, take lighting measurements, submit samples for customer approval, support Pre-Production (PP) builds and validation testing.
Primary Responsibilities
Review First Off Tool and design changes for parts/assemblies for approval to ship to assembly facility
Provide 3D CAD and other build related documentation to assembly facility
Coordinate tooling texture activities with suppliers, customer, Project Lead (PL) & Program Manager (PM)
Acquire color/texture samples from suppliers for customer approval
Coordinate final assembly packaging design with packaging designer considering cosmetic & structural aspects of product
Prepare/submit master samples by measuring illumination, button force, etc. for customer approval
Prepare documents for internal/external customers
Investigate current product issues by performing tests, reviewing part measurement data and other techniques
Create, maintain and check mechanical portion of BOM
Coordinate PP build activity with PL & PM
Design/Support fixture creation for vibration testing, bench testing, measurements, etc.
Provide direction/guidance to validation testing facility for technical issues
Check test reports for accuracy and verify test method - report out to PL
Minimum Requirements
• BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Technology
• 5+ years experience designing product for mass production
• Proficient knowledge of Siemens NX
• 3+ years experience designing plastic parts
Preferred Requirements
• Previous experience in automotive industry for interior plastic switch components
• Product development experience from concept to mass production
• Experience with Teamcenter software for CAD data management & NX 11
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
