Purpose

The Manufacturing Engineer is accountable for planning, coordinating and implementing production processes required for the manufacture of Coleman products for the Newell Brands Central Supply Chain division located in Wichita, Kansas. This includes new and existing products, their tooling and equipment, factory layout, production line processes and associated costs. The engineer is also responsible for regular production support, reducing costs, improving quality as well as maintaining routing and bill of material documentation.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage aspects of new product introductions including mold and die requirements and design for manufacturing reviews.
  • Manage all phases of capital projects as they relate to new product or existing product and process improvements.
  • Create and maintain engineering documents, blueprints and machine programming software.
  • Optimize aspects of existing products including process changes, new process introduction, troubleshooting production issues and equipment.
  • Lead the continuous improvement initiatives using 5S, Lean, PEAK and other problem-solving methods.
  • Research and implement new technologies into manufacturing processes.
  • Optimize molding processes, including injection molding, blow molding, thermoforming, and sheet extrusion.
  • Participate in injury prevention, promoting safety and maintaining a neat and orderly workplace. Also Follow Newell's Code of Safe Practices.
  • All other projects as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Experience, & Skill Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent applied work experience.
  • 5+ years manufacturing engineering experience in a related field.
  • Plastics - Injection molding, blow molding, vacuum forming, and sheet extrusion, including the tooling associated with these processes.
  • Appliances - Direct experience with light gauge metal manufacturing, press tooling, paint systems and copper and silver brazing is preferred.
  • Strong technical skills with line balancing, product flow and time studies.
  • Must have demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel within a team environment.
  • Must have experience maintaining high level of activity working with several projects simultaneously.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership, coaching and self-starting skills.
  • Project management; project engineer from the planning stage through completion
  • Prefer experience with new product implementation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lean principles, ergonomic principles and Six-Sigma certification a plus.
  • Ability to travel as needed domestically (10% average).
