Packing Operator Mechanic Lead (Night Shift) - Goldsboro, N C

Monroe Staffing is a division of Staffing 360 Solutions. We are a leading staffing firm in the U.S. in the light industrial sector.

We currently have an immediate full-time opening for a Packing Operator Mechanic Lead (Night Shift) for a large food manufacturing plant in Goldsboro, NC.

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Previous maintenance mechanic experience and operating conveyor machines and other industrial production machinery is highly preferred. Must complete company training modules for all pieces of qualified equipment. Requires strong mechanical aptitude.

Use math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions in sizing materials, calculating the amount of material needed, and reporting time. Uses math for complicated equipment diagrams, specifications, charts, tables, and various precision measuring instruments.

Must be able to work independently, to plan sequence of and make decisions concerning math and equipment procedures. Must be able to learn new technology and instruct Operator Mechanics of lesser skill or experience. Intermediate-level computer skills required. Vocational technical training is a strong plus. North Carolina Career Readiness Certification (Bronze level or higher) is a plus. Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Pay Rate:

$18.90 - $25.22/Hour (commensurate with experience)

Responsibilities of the Packing Operator Mechanic Lead:

The Packing Operator Mechanic Lead (Night Shift) gets qualified for the position by successfully completing the certified training modules to set up, operate, and maintain all qualified pieces of equipment for assigned production departments.

Under the supervision of a supervisor, coordinates work, and resolves production and equipment problems for assigned production departments (Cutting, Packing, Capping, Finished Goods).

Set up, troubleshoot, repair and/or replace parts, and operate qualified equipment in the department.

Under the supervision of the supervisor, coordinates work and resolves production or equipment problems.

Perform preventive maintenance and inspection on all production equipment.

Set up, operate, repair, and maintain equipment in the department to produce safe quality food while meeting department KPI's.

Adjusts line speeds as necessary to meet standards and maximize production while maintaining quality.

Perform daily and weekly operational and pre-operational checks on all production equipment. Write work requests for any repairs and have supervisor approval. Make DIN maintenance calls as needed.

Troubleshoot and repair equipment including replacement of parts on equipment to minimize downtime. Notify maintenance of any assistance needed.

Clean and maintain assigned work areas, including servicing and performing preventive maintenance on equipment, checking oil levels, greasing, etc.

Monitor production equipment to ensure that product is adhering to food safety and quality critical limits.

Hand out, collect, and review weekly and monthly preventive maintenance reports.

Assume some duties of Supervisor in his/her absence.

Assist in training and monitoring the progress of employees in the department.

Record weekly inventory of department supplies.

Perform sheet metal grinding and sheet metal operations in minor fabrication projects.

Operate a forklift when necessary.

Participate in training, employee meetings, and project teams as needed.

Qualifications for the Packing Operator Mechanic Lead:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Supervisory Responsibilities of the Packing Operator Mechanic Lead:

  • Is not a supervisor but has certain responsibilities in leading others in the department.
  • Will assume some supervisor duties in supervisor's absence.


Machines, Equipment, Tools Used by the Packing Operator Mechanic Lead:

  • Machinery includes conveyors, labelers, printers, case jets, tamper evident banding machinery, tray formers, inserters, fillers, palletizers, shrink wrappers, case packers, pumps, cutting machinery, cappers, fillers, color sorters, blanchers, and pasteurizers.
  • Some machinery may have multiple functions, be computerized, and/or have robotic components.
  • Tools include basic hand tools, scan guns, and measuring devices.
  • Equipment includes Forklift.


Physical Demands of the Packing Operator Mechanic Lead:

  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending at waist.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s).
  • Standing: Sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, sometimes for long distances or moving from one work area to another.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.


Work Environment of the Packing Operator Mechanic Lead:

  • Work environment is subject to some seasonal temperature variations and intermittent wetting from job tasks.
  • Some contact with grease, ink, glue, and dust.
  • Earplugs and hearing protection are required because of machinery noise.
  • Head cover and beard cover required.
  • Steel-toe shoes are required.
