As a valued member of our dedicated Optimus Test team, we're seeking an exceptional Mechanical Test Engineer to play a crucial role in testing and validating the Tesla Bot. In this role, you'll design and set up tests to evaluate product performance and reliability. We're looking for someone with strong mechanical skills, project management experience, and the ability to take ownership for successful outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in mechanical engineering, including structures and power transmission systems, and a comprehensive understanding of robotic systems. You'll be exposed to various aspects of the Tesla Bot, such as structures, sensors, and actuators. Your ability to create effective test setups is crucial, along with understanding potential mechanical failures. Adaptability and quick learning are essential, given the evolving nature of the project. Collaboration with cross-functional teams will be a key part of your role, requiring strong technical and problem-solving skills to contribute to the cutting-edge technology of the Tesla Bot.

Responsibilities
  • Identify risks and failure modes of novel products and product designs by applying first principles thinking and scientific methodologies. Based on this analysis, design and build mechanical test setups and develop adequate test methodologies
  • Define test methods and measurement procedures, as well as setup controls. Work with cross-functional teams to develop pass/fail criteria
  • Drive reliable collection of high-quality test data, analyze, and interpret test results, present findings, and guide failure analysis
  • Lead Test Engineers and techinicians to reach the project goals
  • Optimize test throughput and data collection using automation
  • Document test specifications and standard operation procedures
  • Work with equipment/test engineers and vendors to specify and procure new test equipment


Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical system design, development or testing in robotic, automotive, aerospace, or related industries
  • Thorough experience in design and/or testing of electro-mechanical and robotic systems
  • Strong background in CAD, such as Catia, 3DX or Solidworks is a must
  • Proficiency in understanding the principles and experience in selection and implementation of various sensor types (force sensors, load cells, thermocouples, accelerometers, etc.) and actuators (pneumatic, electrical, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Labview, Python or Matlab
  • Proficiency with data analysis software like Excel, Minitab and/or JMP
  • Ability to extract essential information quickly, translate into the right actions, identify effective methods to get the answers needed, and drive to completion in a rapid yet organized manner
  • Eagerness to engage in hands-on activities, comprehending system interactions, and automating repetitive tasks
  • Strong sense of ownership, taking full accountability for assigned tasks, with the ability to adapt and change direction swiftly Collaborative mindset, recognizing the importance of teamwork within Tesla, and exhibiting a willingness to seek assistance and provide support when necessary

    • Expected Compensation

      $80,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
